It's the little things that GPL is missing

After spending all night (and a good bit of the morning) playing the
final version of GPL, I am kind of disappointed by a few things:

1) There is no comprehensive post race information to view or save ( a
la ICR2 )  It talks about in the readme file how you can adjust the
computer AI for league races,  but when the race is over how can you
send in your race info without some sort of post race report.

2) There is no way to race the GP3 or GP2 cars.  These are great
trainers, and it would seem logical that you could race in them to help
your skills progress, yet still get the thrill of victory.

3) No career mode. (This goes with #2 ) It would be nice to incorporate
some sort of "game" into this sim where you have to start in a lower
league and work your way up to the top to get to the "Show".  This would
also make the learning curve easier for people who just jump into the GP
cars and get frustrated. ( NOTE: this should be an additional option to
the ones already present)

4) You should be able to easily scale the driver performance ( like
opponent strength in ICR2).
(A career mode might fix this, but there isn't one)

5)  You should be able to race with less than 5 cars.  This game is very
taxing on the CPU and being able to race with just 2 cars might make it
more playable for some people.  What is with the magic number 5?

All of these complaints are small additions that just make the software
much more enjoyable and accomidating to different players needs.  Papy
knows that many many people will make offline and online
leagues, they address it in the readme, but don't add any options or
features that make it easier.

You can export the event list, standings, and lap times portion of the
race weekend screen (press the gold arrows below the track map and then
use the corners of the pad to cycle through the different sessions).

Hmm I think it's the "point" of this (to somehow prevent easy cheating)

Actually, there _is_. I will refer you to the reference it seems for any
question about GPL , Mrs. Hine's website at :
http://nh.ultranet.com/~alison/gpl    Bookmark this website seriously !

Oh.. this is much more complicated. I would guess and about sure that if GPL
seriously sells good we could see an Expansion pack for it. Including a
carreer mode would be incredible. Im about sure they flirted with the idea
since many years (Nascar Manager would had had this option somehow).

It's possible ;-) (I refer you to the GPL page ^^^ )

Hmm... I think you should seriously have no problem with less than 5 AI.
It's a bug.. I don't know. Neither way Im about sure it's adjustable via the
*.ini files or so...

I let that without any snip, as I understand your point ;-D

You can race the Trainers by changing a single character in your
player.ini file (located in your personal folder in GPL\players).

Open this file with a text editor such as Notepad, and find the
parameter called driverRating.  Change the value for this to 1 to race
the Basic Trainer, or 2 to race the Advanced Trainer.  I recommend
creating a separate player for each Trainer so that your Normalized
Player Time database will be appropriate for the speeds you are running.

For details about the NPT and the GH system, see the general FAQ at my
GPL site:

  http://nh.ultranet.com/~alison/gpl/

With some minor changes to the initialization files controlling the AI
cars, you can control the opponent strength.  It's a bit too detailed to
go into here, but you can find a comprehensive discussion in the AI
section and the Driving section of my general FAQ at the above URL.

Also you can download a modified driver.ini file which will aid you in
controlling the speed of the AI.

Why oh why do I think Ms. Hine is going to have a real problem with
this statement!!!!!!! Maybe you ought to go thoroughly through her
excellent website.

I read your web page again (noticed that you have updated it substantially
in the last few weeks) and found it VERY informative.  Thank you for
putting such a resource out on the net for us all. My only question
remaining is this:

Is it possible for just me and just 1 friend to race eachother with
NO computer AI cars, or is 5 opponents the minimum?

I haven't tried internet racing yet because I don't know where to find
people. ( is it #gpl on Undernet or Effnet or Dalnet??)

In multiplayer there is no minimum number of AI (the slider can be set
to zero).  Note that the slider controls the total size of the field, so
if you have it set 19 computer opponents, one AI driver will be bumped
for each human driver that connects always keeping the total field size
at 20.
