Rfactor does not boot

by Txl » Wed, 28 Dec 2005 15:45:01

Hello,

I have recently installed Rfactor and I have a problem, the game does not boot.

I go to the video settings, put my values and start the game, hard disk spins for 5-6 seconbds and I come back to the video settings page afetr some internet access (my firewall is telling me).

I suspect something is wrong with the video settings, can I use a "safe mode" to start the game ?

Thanks for the help

Have you registered yet?   It sounds like the sim is accessing the
internet to check your registration number.  Either your firewall is
blocking this process or your number isn't being properly found.

Also Zone Alarm and a few other firewalls can cause an extreme delay in
loading Rfactor.

TXL,

Ed Medlin's post is true, all I wanna add is that I had more or less, the
same problem, it turned out to be AntiVirus from COmputer associates (mines
bundled with SBC & Yahoo), i f you have it you will have to disable it to
run, until you figure out how to set an excaption in the AV sw (is
possible).  Firewall is most likely the 1st problem, it has to register (and
BTW even offline you need to set it to allow it seems to help, in firewall)
second could combined be like me FW & AV sw... which made it hard to figure
out.  Kill them both.  BTW my firewall is a Hardware firewall/router with
child proof net surfing protection software, again from SBC-Yahoo...  It was
blocking things the 1st time run, asking if you wanna give permission.
disable register then figure out how to allow is what I had to do, then all
was fine...

<snip>

CA's ezAntivirus program has a "snooze" mode that lets you play
rFactor without having to completely shut down (and later restart)
the program. Right-click on the taskbar icon and select "Snooze
antivirus protection". Fill in an appropriate time in the dialogue
windows and click the "Snooze" button.

To reactive the realtime checking, right-click on the icon and
select the same "snooze..." option, but this time click on the
"Wake" button.
