DOS boot disk ???

by Henry B Kell » Thu, 13 Nov 1997 04:00:00

Hi, I'm running a 486 dx with 12 ram and I'm wondering if the dos
boot disk option is worth an improvement in sim performance. I really
don't understand the concept or how to do it, but I noticed some mention
of this on the group and I'm wondering if it will affect the way my
Nascar1 looks and operates.
Thanks for any help.
Aloha, Henry

DOS boot disk ???

I did a little more work on this.
I'm now getting choppy (slow framerates I think) using SVGA
so I check my memory and I hace over 9,400 kb of free memory and it says I
need at least 7,367. Does that mean I have enough? Or are the slower frame
rates with SVGA a different problem? I'm thinking the dos boot disk might
help. Yes? No? Maybe? Please see my second post regarding UNIVESA.
Aloha, Henry

Could be an improvement altho I don't think so...but worth a try
You don't really need to make a bootdisk ..
All you have to do is press F8 ( =step by step confirmation  .. I hope
my memory serves me right :) ) when DOS boots then install (by pressingY)
all driver needed to play the game. Leave out all unnecessarry drivers
( like the CD driver if you son't use the cd or Soundblaster driver if
you don't use it etc...)
Or you can make a multiconfig CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT
( see "help multiconfig" <----- type that at DOS prompt )
