Disappointed with Kyro II

I've just purchased a 64Mb Kyro II card to (finally) replace the venerable
Voodoo 3 on my 1ghz Athlon system. I had previously tried an Nvidia MX card
and was largely underwhelmed - it went back. Anyhow, after hearing good
reports about the Kyros and with the price having just come down here in Oz
(the reason for not buying a GTS or GeForce3), I took the plunge and bought
the Kyro II. So far I've seen an improvement in frame rates in NFSPU and the
N4 demo, but the main (only) sim I use regularly, GPL, has suffered from the
changeover. Obviously I use the D7 rasterizer, but the graphics look less
detailed than the Glide version and the framerate has taken a considerable
hit. At the back of a full grid at Spa, at 1024x768, with all graphics on
and the detail slider 80% to the right, I always got a steady 36 fps at
flagfall with the V3. With the Kyro, it drops to about 24 fps until the
first corner, and then improves from there. As I said before, the graphic
detail is worse than on the V3, and part of the menus are missing. Are there
better drivers for the Kyro than came on the CD? - If so where? I also have
a problem with GP3, being unable to better about 12 fps at the start of a
race - regardless of resolution.
Any suggestions, otherwise the V3 goes back in !
                                  TIA..
                                   Phillip...

Go to www.nvidia.com and get the Detonator drivers.
The drivers on the CD that came with your card are probably ancient.
I've had great luck with using Detonator vs. the drivers specific for
my card (Elsa Gladiac GeForce 2).

NO DONT

The Kryo 2 DOES NOT use Detonator drivers

Visit the Hercules website - and use the drivers there for your card

The Kyro 2 has big problems with GP3 and there is no workaround.
There are newer drivers 8. something

Read the article on
http://news.simracing.dk/anmeldelser/hardware/kyro2_gpl/kyro2_gpl.htm
Thats tells you how to fix the KyroII vs. GPL problems.

It needs a little work, but the Kyro II can be made to run GPL very
smoothly.

I think you have experienced the wonder of the Kyro's tile based
rendering.  basically, it doesn't work with a number of games.  GP3 is
one.  I can't remember what was the real problem, but it had something
to do with 2D overlays, I believe.

AFAIK there is no fix.

Oops, sorry. It was early, and I had a major brain fart and for some
reason thought he was referring to an NVidia based card.

The Kyro is based on PowerVR, right?
