Well, if you WATCH auto racing on CBS, here's what you get:
"...and welcome back to CBS's coverage of the Daytona 500...Here's a
look at what happened just a moment ago..."
-or-
"...THERE'S A WRECK!! THERE'S A WRECK!! HEY JACK, WE GOT A CAMERA OUT
THERE?!"
-or-
"...Martin is now in front, taking the lead from Jarrett...Let's take a
look at how it happened" <because they missed it while contemplating the
merits of left-handed vs. right-handed lugnuts> "And now Jarrett has
taken the lead back!...Let's take a look at what happened here.." <also
missed, because replay of first incident> >:(
CBS is the worst, but has some of the best commentators...They talk, and
talk, and talk, and talk, and...Ooooh! They missed another one!
ABC isn't too hot either...They have the cameras, the positions, but
they have a producer who (IMHO) would rather be out checking the snow-
bunnies in Aspen, than be telling his camera people to focus on the
action. Amazing that ABC and ESPN are even in the same parent company.
It is my opinion that commentators should never appear at all, and do
what they're supposed to do...comment, but only when appropriate. Stay
out of the pits...this is what the ESPN "Happy Hour's" for. For those
without access to ESPN, then the regular networks should have a thorough
pre-race commentary, and once the green flag drops, shut the hell up <at
least the mumbo-jumbo crap>! =P
Oh, and BTW, Ned Jarrett *is* a "veteran" NASCAR driver. =)
Cheers!
