F1RC Demo Slideshow!

by BRH » Thu, 29 Mar 2001 10:53:03

I'm trying out the F1RC demo, and find that I get LOUSY framerates on my
Voodoo5 system.  In fact, it's very much a slide show -- unplayable.  I
know that there must be something wrong, as all others have agreed that
the graphics and framerate, at least, are excellent.  (....even though
they don't agree on much of anything else).

So can anyone offer any suggestions on how to get this to run right?

that's the problem?)  I have turned off all background processes.  All
my other sims run smoothly, even F12KCS.

If anyone with a Voodoo5 is successfully running this demo, what graphic
settings are you using (within Control Panel and within the demo).

Thanks.

Install DirectX 8.0a, it should solve your problem. I am running the Voodoo5
1600x1200 at 2x FSAA with all details maxed out with F1RC and the
performance is great. Also, 4x FSAA and 32bpp color don't run too well in
resolutions of 1280x1024 and above.

That's off by default in the demo. I'm guessing he needs to turn off
32bit colour and use 16bit. It was slow on my V5 until I did that too.
FSAA and 32bit is a bit much for a V5.

Environment Mapping is off and color is already set to 16 bit, but I still
get the slide show effect.  I experimented a bit more tonight and found that
the slide show is most pronounced at Spa near the S/F line.  After that
things smooth out nicely.  Is this normal?  I would think that running a
full field would be unplayable at the start.

Also, I find that Monaco runs more smoothly than Spa, which is pretty
surprising to me.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

Yea, I noticed that in the demo too. Spa is slow at the start. I'm
hoping it's just a demo problem.
