Anyone know if the TOCA game soon to be released in the USA will be any
different than the imported version I have had for awhile?

The screen shots in the advert in the new PC Gamer show a picture of a
Alfa. SO that's new.
I'd also love to know if it's based on the upcoming TOCA2 or is just a
updated TOCA with changed graphics.
The release date is set for Sep 1st, TOCA2 is surely not ready yet??
is it????

If it is an updated carset for the US release, I would hope that they release a
patch for us that have the UK version.

That and fix a bug with the 3-d tracks in the menus not being lit properly
after installing DirectX 6.0

Ah, so it isn't just me with the dark tracks!

Why on Earth would they release the original version (with the
exception of the carset) when TOCA2 is due in a few months?

Strange decision!

I can't see them doing that. The 3do website (3do are the US distributors of
the game), http://www.3do.com
features cars and tracks from the 1997 season. With the exception of a
different name (TOCA Championship Racing) and possibly different packaging,
I expect the game will be the same as the UK version.

However, 1998 season patches and carsets are available from the downloads
page at 'TOCA : A Players Guide' :

So it's not just me then :) The actual game runs better under DX6 but I also
get unlit tracks, even when available.

How do you mean runs better? Will it help me shave
a couple of hundredths of my times ?

Under DX5, my 3D card and sound card didn't really work to well together. I
had scratchy and distorted sound and slow video. It has all been fixed now
though with Dx6, except for the dark tracks on the selection screen. Its
helped me get some better times through a faster frame rate.

For a better frame rate just turn everything off. You don't need to see the
grandstands to set a fast lap. Turn it all back on again to impress your
friends!

That _was_ with everything off! :)

From what I read, its due out in Spetember, but its the same game as
the rest of the world got.
Perhaps they just stuck the Alfa in because it looks great! :-)
