Hawaii / NRO Questions

by zen.. » Tue, 25 Feb 1997 04:00:00

For any of you in the know, I had a few questions:

1)  I havent been on Hawaii.  Can you actually get 30 people racing
without so much lag that it is worthless?  I mean, I played C&C on
Mplayer, and it would pause sometimes for 20 secs.  Even 1.5 secs and
you would be peeling yourself off the wall in Nascar...

2)  What is the deal with NRO on TEN?  Is that gonna use Nascar 1 or
2?  And being that it is a internet connection vs a direct connect
like hawaii, how about question 1 on TEN?

3)  How does qualifying work on Hawaii?  Does everyone qualify at
once, like 2 person modem play, or do u qualify individually and
everyone has to wait?

4)  How does the ranking system work, and if someone takes me out in a
wreck, do I get penalized for it, or just the person that caused it?

5)  Will the rankings transfer from Hawaii to NRO, or will everyone
start over?

6)  Will there be any other online racing places besides NRO?  Will
Hawaii cease to exist when the NRO starts?

7)  Is there a list of racing leagues that people can join? (and
where?)

Well, that about does it.  Thanks a lot for any input.  I'm sure
someone besides me wants to know some of these questions too. :)

Yes...Hawaii works quite well with a full (human) field.  :)

NRO will use N2, and will be played via ISP over the 'net...You have
the option of using your current ISP (if it's a good one), or dialing into
TEN via the concentric Network.

Works the same as H2H multiplayer, where all drivers can qualify
simultaneously.

In a nut-shell, rankings will be based on your performance at a given
track, so that someone who's fast on a Superspeedway won't have the
same ranking when he goes to a race at a short track (and visa-versa).

All the points earned on Hawaii wont transfer to NRO, but some of
the points will be retained.  This is to keep from starting over, and
also to give new-comers something to shoot for.

The only other online source will be via IPX over the 'net.  The current
systems are Kahn and Kali, but only support up to 8-players (due to
the limits of the game).  For more info, check out:

The lag is below .25 seconds, usually in the .15 to .2 range

NRO will be direct connect.  Ten has a web site for software, but you
will connect directly with a TEN dialup, using Nascar 2.

Everyone qualifies at the same time.  Usually take 2 to 3 minutes, 4 to 5
at Dega.

Yes you get penalized points for EACH incident, your fault or not.  The
higher your skill level, the more points you lose for incidents.  You
earn points for beating those with skill levels within 2 of yours (if
you're 8, then 6 to 10 skills count)  and lose poinst when they beat you.
Earn enough points and you move up.

The rankings are supposed to carry over.

Hawaii will eventually be shut down, after NRO is up and running and
everyone has had a chance to switch over.  There are a number of other
places to race, some in the planning stages.  Check out www.wheretorace.
com and www.ivga.com

Get the software and www.papy.com and when you dial up there is a page to
inform you about all of the leagues.

I'm not the resident expert, but I think these answers are correct.  If
not, feel free to input the corrections.

WHAT????  I understood it to be that your skill levels and
everything would transfer over to NRO.  What's not going to
transfer?  That's would be a BIG bite in the a** to have spent
all that money investing into AT&T, only to have it been for
nothing.
       Say it ain't so........
