GP2 - SOME NEW INFO

by Ken Barr » Sat, 04 May 1996 04:00:00

Just a few notes on our long awaited game.  We might as well talk
about it even tho' it ain't here YET!!. A friend who works in one of
our local computer stores has an early release version of GP2, which
he hoped to be able to display in the shop.  I said to him to get it
on quick, but the sad news is that their display machine could not
handle the game in any form, even VGA with all the detail turned off,
which apparantly just looks like F1GP, altho the cars look a lot
nicer.  The machine in question is only a DX2.66.  On his own machine,
a Pentium P75 with 16 Meg, he was still disappointed.  In SVGA with
all the detail turned on, it was like watching a slide show.  Turned
most detail off, and well, things still weren't great.  Down to VGA,
and things get a bit better, but still had to turn some detail off to
get it running at a decent frame rate.  GP2, feature wise is complete
but needless to say, it still has a LOT of tuning before it's going to
be anything near acceptible.  But the good news is that all the
detail, crashes, scenery etc all look superb.  So unless Crammond & Co
can work a few miracles before the so-called release date of 29th
June, start saving for a ninja pentium.
