"Need For Speed" Requirements: The world isn't ready!

NFS works well on Pentiums.  But not the best.  A couple of weeks ago I
tried NFS on a Pentium 133 with SVGA graphics at maximum on a company
computer (Maxed out RAM/CD-Rom/Hard Drive.)  The frame rate is still not
working at its fullest.  If you want to see NFS rock, I suggest you buy a
Pentium 150, 160+.  I am trying to convince my dad to get me a dual
processor 133 motherboard (266 mhz) upgrade. I now have a 486 DX2 66.  The
software is to far advanced to handle the hardware of today.  GET A MAJOR
UPGRADE!  MAX OUT YOUR COMPUTER!

I have a P-120 with 16Mb RAM and a Diamond Stealth 64 Video VRAM card.
NFS runs smoothly in 640 x 480 with all graphics options set to max.
In fact it runs smoother at 640 x 480 than my old DX2-80 ran at 320 x
200 with a couple of the options set at medium. The first time I tried
it on my P-120 I beat my previous best time for most tracks.

Uh, I respectfully disagree.  I'm runnin a P90 w/1meg Stealth dram,
(HARDLY state 'o the art) and with all options ON, HiRes...Need for
Speed COOKS...SMOOTH AS SILK.  (BTW...great arcade fun when you're
maxxed out tweakin that extra .1 second in Nascar/Indy)  FWIW...save
your money on SMP...2 P133's DO NOT equal 266mhz system speed.

Actually I doubt that a dual processor pentium would help since DOS doesn't
take advantage of them.

I am using a Micron P100 and this game is near perfect. All options to the max
and smooth as silk.

I have a Gateway2000 133MHZ with the OEM Matrox Millenium card.
I haven't found a game that doesn't work (have most EA sports, ICR2,
NASCAR (pushing it)).

A dual pentium isn't going to do you any good (OS dependant).
My roommate has a P90 with the matrox, everything "seems" to work
OK too.
I would tend to agree that if you buy a machine, it will be
software obsolete if you don't buy something fast and upgradable.

Don't make such bold statements with such limited
knowledge and experience.  NFS runs fine on any *decent* P133.  This
computer you refer to with the "maxed out RAM," etc., is a lemon.  Oh,
and good luck with your "266 mhz" upgrade.  :)

Wrong-O, friend.  I don't even WANT to know what you THINK you mean by
a MAXXED OUT CD/ROM and HARD DRIVE...but NFS runs slick as snot on my
P90...with just a lowly 2x Panasonic and 1meg Stealth 64 dram.  FWIW,
save your (or your Dads bucks)...SMP processing needs a couple of minor
things...An O/S, MBoard, and PROGRAM that SUPPORTS dual cpu's.  Good
Luck getting THAT together and running, game-wise.  Meanwhile, NFS is
great arcade fun when you're MAXXED OUT tweakin your ICR/NASCAR setups
fer that extra .2 mph...TOO COOL DEWD...

Yeppers, you'd hafta have some overlay-type thing provided with the
motherboard for DOS to use it to its full potential.  Heck; just go get a
SUN workstation!  <g>  Ashame they won't run DOS!
