NSR - Online play and why is there a bird chirping in my ear?

Also known as how the HELL do I turn off the sound the entry/exit sequence
makes?  It is driving me BATTY!

The text announcement can be  killed by setting the player file entry for
this to 2 instead of 3 (verbose).  This does NOT stop the damned sound
though.

This sound causes massive screen freezes every single time someone enters or
leaves the game.  It is totally unacceptable.

I've read that this was a primary complaint of online in Thunder 2004 as
well.

It is really, REALLY loud too.

The screen freezes this causes has caused a ton of wrecks too.

I've been all over the player file and other than being able to turn off the
text/chat portion of the announcement I can't find anything to stop the
sound/stutter.

Haven't tried this online yet, but it might be the answer.

audio/options/playerJoined.wav & playerLeft.wav

Change the .wav to .old, or something.

I haven't tried it myself, but read at either BHM or RSC that deleting
the .wav for the player entry/exit has no effect on the slight pause
that occurs. It does eliminate the awful noise though....

Speaking of which, what's with the scraping noise (i.e. bottoming out)?
Sounds more like a rustling plastic bag.

Well, at least I can get rid of the blasted noise.  What WERE they thinking
?
