Haven't even heard of it yet.  But get ready for an influx of:
DX8.1 SUCKS!  IT BROKE MY SYSTEM! DON'T EVER BUY FROM MS!
things like that.

i just looked at the WEBpage...it's a beta so take that into
consideration.
AND there is a warning further down that developers supporting Win95
should continue to use dx8.0
So should we be advising win95's to stay away from that for now?

I dl'd it last night, probably just after it became available . . . but I've
been too much of a scaredy-cat to install it.

GForce 2 didn't work for me at all but other folks say it's terrific.
There's always going to be a computer somewhere where something won't
work, but generally DX is pretty well nailed down before it's
released,  even as a beta.

There was a HUGE screwup with the release of DX7. DirectPlay broke a
lot of joysticks including Mircosoft's own Sidewinder! This set up a strange
situation for folks who bought MS Flight Simulator 2000 to go with thier MS
Sidewinder. The program required DX7 to run right but if you installed it
the MS joystick broke. Either way you were SOL.

Why would anyone choose to try a beta?  That's just asking for trouble.
When it's on microsoft.com then i'll download it.

Its the exactly the same as with DirectX 8.0A given that it only adds a new
