What is the scoop on left foot braking? I've heard it is the way to go
so I finally hooked some CH USB Pro pedals to my LWFF. I found it very
weird to brake with the left foot. It didn't feel like driving to me
and i couldn't keep the car on the track, but I'm sure I can get used
to it. The question is how long does it take to relearn this stuff and
is it worth it. I don't have time to race as much as I'd like and my
PB's are pretty slow. Monza 1:30.xx; Spa 3:31.xx; WG 1:07.xx.

The real trouble is when you, as I have, use the pedals for flying too,
then try to turn left by applying the brake.....

It's a skill worth learning.  Not only will your times improve, but you'll
find a little dab of brakes can work wonders in restoring control when you
start to lose it under accelleration.  Hang in there.

Now, if we could only covert Eldred!

It's definitley worth learning, because the reaction time is so much
quicker.  If you need to use the brakes in a hurry you can do.  Once you're
used to it, it feels natural.

I don't know. I got hell over coming out in favor of left foot braking in a
real car with an automatic a couple of weeks ago. I think I'll just sit this
one out.  :)

Not that long, and yes it is worth it.

Left foot braking has a bad rap on the street, mostly because the people who do
it badly go around advertising themselves by having their brake lights on all
the time.

I've always left foot braked in my sims which started roughly about the
same time I started driving real cars. Strangely enough, left foot
braking in a car seems completely unnatural to me, just as right foot
braking in a racing sim seems completely unnatural to me.

Keep at it, because it makes things like trail braking much easier.

Cheers,
Rod.

Actually I'm even slower than that. My PB is about a second better
than a good normal lap. And that is in the lotus which i don't drive
anymore (well not now but i will go back to it--when gplea finishes
their udate--smile)  I'm much happier with my spa results (brahbam).
went from 3:40 to 3:38 to 3:34 to 3:31 in about a week. Problem is my
average lap is much worse if I take no risks: slow through masta,
brake straight and early at la source and real gentle through that
*** downhill right left (eau rouge?) just after the start.  I figure
I can get to 3:25 in about a week and then stay there forever :-)

left-foot braking is less fuel-efficient according to former IMSA champ Steve
Millen in R&T's test of the CLK-GTR (Nov. 98)...i also have heard that Juan
Montoya (who's definitely FAST) and Alex Zanardi are right-foot brakers...i
also know that Al Unser, Jr. and Jimmy Vasser are left-foot brakers as well as
i believe most formula one drivers...personally, i right-foot brake on my TM
NASCAR Pro...i only left-foot brake when i run in traffic on an oval...drive my
street w/ right-foot braking only

God bless,
Loren

I don't care since fuel is for free in most sims :)

I'm from the US and we left foot brake over here, even in our real
cars...lol
No, left foot braking IS the only way to go in oval racing when drafting,
because you have to brake while holding the throttle wide open in the draft.
Else you get dropped, very quickly. Even when not in the draft, it helps
cornering by keeping the engines momentum built up by keeping the
accelerator 75-100% and dragging the brakes to set the car up for the
corner. Some places if you lift to brake, it will actually upset the cars
balance and bring the rear end around on you quickly (California, Vegas,
Homestead, etc in N3) if your going as fast as you should down the
straights.
Anywho, my 2 cents, don't race much open wheel sims so take it for what its
worth.
