As long as you still want to play any Nascar 2 sim (including NR1999)
online you need the DOS executable. If that is the case your best bet
is your TM T2 wheel as the new FF wheels will not calibrate properly.
If you want to use the FF wheel with the new windows sims I suggest
the logitech wheel.
As for new sims, in addition to GPL I would suggest SCGT which has
support for Force feedback. I am playing that game more than F1RS.
It is really great.

Well, you'll find many broad answers on that one, but most will point to
Grand Prix Legends by Sierra/Papyrus. You might need to invest in a 3D
card that can run Glide(3DFX preferably) I do believe. Not sure though.
The game is set in the late 60's era, 1967 to be exact, hence the name
Legends. I would agree this is THE definitive racing simulator today.
But you must also realize this game will sap hours from you as try to
learn how to drive one of theses beasts. I still have yet to get a grip
on one of these cars properly, and I've been at it for a few months now.
Steep learning curve, but fully worth it when you get to the top from
what I hear. And then you can hit the online environment---That's a
blast. Check out http://gpl.gamestats.com/ for more info. As far as
currently dated F1 simulators go, check the NG here, there are plenty of
personal reviews lying around.
Like I said, pick yourself up a copy of Nascar Racing 1999 Edition by
Sierra/Papyrus with NROS included, that way you can race the more up to
date version off-line for fun and practice, and then also run NASCAR2
online with us at TEN. There are currently, rough estimate here, about
300-600 people that race on TEN on any given evening. we also have our
own NG as well. TEN.games.simulations.nascar
AND/OR
You can wait for late fall/early winter, when Sierra/Paprus will release
NASCAR 3. The multiplayer capabilities will enable you to race against
large fields of drivers ala Quake style, or VROC style, where one
computer will host the race. And they are perhaps implementing a free
dedicated style server of there own, which will make NROS all but
extinct.
GOOD LUCK

Sure, if you like undedicated servers, host taking the plug out of the
server when they DNF, cheaters, plenty of kids, keyboard racers, plenty of
boots, plenty of warp, no rankings, etc.. it might be suited for you. But
the NROS won't be extinct, not at all. There will be plenty of people who
will enjoy dedicated and stable (compared to the Papyrus possible
alternative) system, for 13$ per month.

Your right we have undedicated servers what we have is servers
dedicated to good racing. The hosts quitting when they get a DNF is
so rare its not worth bringing up. CHEATERS I would like you to name
JUST 1, you seem to know everything about everything so name 1
cheater. The average age of the racers on VROC is about 36, a hell of
a lot older then on TEN. I have been racing on VROC since day 1 and
have never seen anyone racing with their keyboard so I guess you just
made that up. Mostly the boots are because guys join races that have
pings to high and they have no business being there in the first
place. I've been on TEN going back over 1 year before Nascar got there
and for you to even bring up the boot problem really lets everyone
know what a narrow minded person you are. You use the words Dedicated
and Stable you must be on another TEN then the one I or most other
people use.

Lets see, other than the undedicated servers and host pulling the plug
scenario, everything here is exactly what you would expect on TEN/NROS also.
Dedicated, sure. Stable? Not hardly. DOS based software for $13 bucks
a month? No support at all still for digital wheels? Rankings that are
bogus
anyways (and everyone on TEN knows it), NROS '99 tournament still on
hold? Ok, sure a heck of a lot of nothing for $13 bucks.
Motorsims should do a better job, I would think.
Btw, what happened ymenard? For awhile there you said you were leaving
TEN/NROS...change your mind? Heh.
I just stated fact that WILL happen when N3 is out. I see nothing wrong, Im
just stating facts. If you can't accept them, It's not my fault.
Another time, remember that Sierra is the owner of Papyrus and the NROS.
It's not because it's presently in it's state that it will be forever. Do
you really think we will continue to race on the NROS with N2 ? No. Not at
all. And soon you will see. What's the big problem with DOS btw you have ?
Doesn't increase anything, in fact the NR99 windows version is very, very
buggy, alot more than the same Dos version :)
I simply state a psychology fact that the less you are aged the more chances
you are to be immature. Let's not go into the Politically correct stuff,
because Im anything but PC. If you are PC, perfect, but Im not most of the
time. Kids ARE immature, people will keyboard ARE a danger to people racing
with wheel in general. As for cheaters, whatever their age I never said
they were kids. They are society rejects that have no sense of morals and
ethics. Age make no difference in their case.
Hmm yeah they will just relog as another name. Unless you have a select
list of people you can absolutly trust (but are you sure ?), anybody is a
possible cheater, especially with the same file architecture that is very,
very easy to hack, since it's soo old there is plenty of people who know how
to modify it. Me being one, but I would never do such a thing (actually I
did some heavy testing for the NROS against people who would try to use NR99
tracks for N2 on the NROS) ;)
Sure I enjoy TEN and GPL also. Any company that creates good online racing
is great for me, and I will support it. But Im raising issues that the way
Papyrus will do it "might" not satisfy everybody, thus the statement that
the NROS will continue to exist, because remember that we won't be running
N2 for any long on the NROS probably.
No flame to you also, I just want to raise issues here. People will be
happy and dissapointed at the same moment. I am really anxious for those
both reasons to see how they will do the whole issue. But it will be
anything but a cure-all, and there will be people who will continue to pay
for dedicated servers. And even if 2000people leave TEN, it doesn't mean
the NROS is dead, not at all. We can easily live with a smaller market, but
at least a market of good quality racers, people racing in quality leagues
like HAL, HGNS, Oscar, CERL, etc..

When you want to discuss in a mature way, just ask me. I will help you with
your problems, but please remember that respect should be done on both sides
here. But with a post like this one above, you demonstrated pure
immaturity. Companies have problems, it's a normal thing in life. Accept
that they happen, and accept that they are being fixed. Im not on TEN's
payroll, I just know what's happening. And Im anything but a brain washed
***.
