The cars.dat file has NOTHING to do with speeds, AI, or driving
style.....    But, of course, a great progamer like yourself already
knew this..........

only replaces the cars that came with the original and does not redefine
how fast these cars go or how well the driver drives?  Correct?

Yes....That is correct. That is why it is called "PaintKit," and not
CarTuneUpKit.

If you wish to adjust the AI cars, you need to do a lot of testing, or
have friends that are willing to tell you where to get info on this.

There is no "book" on this, but with enough experience and testing, you
will know exactly what to do! It's really cool when you learn how it
works!

And this is a key to setting apart a game from a sim! IndyCar Racing has
some of the same features, but with ICR 2.0, we will be able to make the
same adjustments, and keep these two Sims playable for years and years!

I cannot thank Papyrus enough for *finally* taking the "arcade" out of
racing games, and finally making (them) a true simulation!!!

Of course, if a consumer wants to run ICR/NCR as a game, with no effort
to learn more about the insides of these sims, then that's okay too.

A "true" Sim, IMO, is one that takes current, real-life situations, and
presents that to us! Unlike the Sim City/World/Earth/Solar System/Town/
County/Province/Country/etc....etc...

Not that those are NOT fun, but sometimes a so-called Sim becomes
redundant.

That would be like creating an IndyCar or NASCAR track with loops! So,
what is next after that? Missles? Machine guns? Rocket/Grenade launchers?

Naaahhh....Already been done on the Amiga/Nintendo/Genesis.

Get a clue Jim...

Last time I looked at my Papyrus NASCAR manual, it has a whole section
starting on page 51 that is entitled:

                           ARCADE DRIVING

You do OWN the manual, don't you...

Seems to me they put "arcade" back in...
I don't recall ARCADE DRIVING in ICR... heh,heh...

That's been done already, it was called "Car Wars" and then Steve
Jackson Games eventually got raided for no real reason.
It would seem to me that the military would not completely like
your definition of "sim".

G'day Folks!

Anyone know the answer to this one?

IndyCar paintkit that comes with Indianapolis Motor Speedway has decals, fonts and logos etc.

The decals and logos supplied aren't really suitable. I can't edit them with the paintkit (TMK), and when I try to edit
them using MSpaintbrush, while they appear to edit and save OK as a .pcx in MSpaintbrush, when I fire up paintkit again,
they appear as just a garbled mess.

Q1. Is there any editor which can be used successfullly to edit or create logos and decals?, or;

Q2. Are there any decals, logos, etc which have already been created or modified by other creative enthusiasts and
placed intthe public domain somewhere?

Q3. The manual I received with the IMS pack was fairly Spartan. Is there a FAQ available which perhaps better describes
the intricies of the Paintkit.

Thanks for listening.

That's only because the arcade lovers whined loud enough. Most of us
never use the arcade option!
Oh yes....I do own the manual. Came with the release version right
after I finished beta-testing it! :)

Arcade driving IS an option in ICR 2.0... it's there for the little kiddies.

Ralf

I have a clue... do you?

No.. thats because Papyrus is a BUSINESS, trying to give their customers what
they want...  You still don't get that, do you...

Then you, of all people should have known it comes with ARCADE DRIVING.
During your "beta-testing", did you suggest they remove the ARCADE DRIVING
function ??? Guess not..   (or most beta testers realized it is a good
addition to their game!... Maybe Papyrus should re-consider who they have beta
test their games.. heh..heh..)

I've never driven with it. The only times I ever use it is to show off
the graphics. Can't see I'll ever use it for driving. What I REALLY
want is a three screen setup for left and right views so that I can
'turn my head' rather than having to guess based on what I see in the
mirrors.

Never drive with arcade view.

Curious thing... How do you define a "simulation" as opposed to an "arcade
game" ?

That is really, pretty much, what I said! If the customers complain enough, it
will eventually be provided, and IMO, Papyrus DID make a good business move by
adding the arcade "feature."

"Arcade" driving is just a different view of your car while driving...An outside
view. And when selecting these views, it in NO way changes the way the sim
operates, and DEFINITELY does not turn it into an arcade game. No matter how you
"look" at it, it's a simulation, and NOT an arcade game.

I saw the "arcade" view as a necessary evil. Tested it quite frequently. Absolutely
hate driving the car that way. So, do you drive your car with the "arcade" view?

Exactly! For one thing the car comes close to impossible to drive in the
arcade view mode.

A three-screen capability would be the cat's meow! It is nice having a
better view in NASCAR, as opposed to IndyCar, but as you know, it's still
difficult knowing where the other cars actually are.

Is this a test? Will I get a grade on my answer? ;)

An arcade game, as related to auto racing, is drop a quarter or two in the slot, and
drive. Basically a one-off situation.

A simulation is something that takes time, dedication and hours of practice to
master. And then when you have "mastered" it, you bump up the opposition level, and
it's a whole new ballgame (sic).

Arcade games, except for the VERY best, are throw-aways. Play them for three months
and the party is over. Sims (GOOD sims) will stay on our harddrives for years.
