Need wheel help-hand controls

by Loui » Sat, 15 Mar 2003 10:28:16

Hello:

I am looking for a good quality wheel with hand controls.  I have a
bad right ankle, so any wheel I buy must have progressive (axis
instead of buttons) paddles behind the wheel.  I'm using a TM Nascar
Sprint right now, but it's getting pretty elderly and I'm afraid it
might go down soon.  The only wheel I find on the TM site with
progressive hand controls is the Ferrari 360 Modena Pro.  I'd probably
spring for one, but I can't find the thing for sale anywhere except
Germany and Finland.  Does anyone know of a good quality wheel that
might fit my needs?  I wouldn't mind spending a little more to get
something more durable.

Thanks in advance for your help

I have a TRW that is set up as you want that I might be willing to part
with.
Not in perfect condition but works good and has good pots.
To use USB would have to get adapter.
I know TRW sells them.

I race from a wheelchair and the best wheel I've found, beleive it or not,
is the Logitech Driving Force.  That  is the model made specificlly for the
Playstation 2:

It is a USB device and the latest drivers from logitech.com support it well.
You can configure all the buttons and it works in single or split axis and
has FF.

PS  I went through 3 Modena 360s, at the rate of 1 every 2-3 weeks.  The
right hand lever spring (used by me as an accelerator) breaks inside where
you can't get at it.

The Logitech is much better.  Have had it for a few months now and still
works fine.

PPS.  If you ever hear of a company who makes a better built, almost
commercial quality wheel with these features I would appreciate a heads up.

Would you mind telling me if that is a model available from the company or
is it a model that you made (modified) yourself ?

The Guillemot Ferrari FF wheel has hand controls that you can use instead of
the pedals. The newer model (Thrustmaster Ferrari) doesn't have them. If you
can't find one used, let me know. I have one I'm not using. I haven't
considered selling it, but.....

The Thrustmaster F1 FF wheel has analogue padles. It has steel shafts and
ball bearing races.

Thanks all for your responses.  It turns out TSW is no longer making
any hand control wheels, so I may end up building my own.  If I find
any good hand control alternatives I'll post the info here for any
interested parties.
