How will I get this wheel to work?

by Ice » Sat, 15 Jan 2000 04:00:00

I have borrowed a steering wheel from a friend, but I didn't get any
software/drivers with it. The wheel is made by Digital Edge (I think), and
it's about 3 or 4 years old. You can see it here:
http://www.racesimcentral.net/

I couldn't find more information about this wheel, so I'm turning to this
newsgroup for advice:
How do I set this wheel up? It's not recognized by Win98, and the company
doesn't show up in the drivers list in Win98. Do I need generic wheel
drivers, or something like that?

I'm hoping to try it out in NFSHS, Colin McRae, and Midtown Madness.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Can you not just set it up as a 2-axis joystick in the control panel ?
Most simple wheels will work like this.

You should just plug the wheel in, set it up as a 2-axis 4 button controller
and that should be all - works in win95, would have thought it was the same
in win98. It does not have drivers supplied with it. Good luck

Well, I got it working (thanks to the responses in this thread), but only as
a 2 axis / 4 button controller. Are you sure about the three axis?

Thanks, it's working now (didn't realize I could use the MS Sidewinder
control panel for this...). It appears you have the same wheel, so can I ask
you this: do you happen to know what the small 'slider' is for? I'm talking
about the black***down the shaft of the steering wheel, which slides
from left to right.

There is a dipswitch in the " pedalbox "  there you  can choose between
2-axis and 3 axis (you have to remove  the lid  between the throttle and the
accelerator  to change it)

LGE

PS not shure the games you mentioned will support a 3 axis wheel

Sounds like an old GP500 or F1 Sim wheel and pedals set-up? These are
actually high quality wheel set-ups and very good controllers. To set it
up do the following:

Go to the "game controllers" icon in control panel, select add, select
(custom) from the top of the controllers list.

Now select 2 axis, and select 4 buttons, and also tick the special
characteristics box, and select "is a race car controller".

Now type in a name, say F1 Sim or GP500, and select ok.

Now calibrate and test.

Thanks, I already got it to work along the lines that you've described. I
had actually entered the exact same name - F1 Sim - that you suggested :-)
My personal conlusion is that the wheel is pretty good, but the pedals suck.
They're squeaky, plastic toy-like pedals, which don't suit the wheel at all
I think.
