Like Don, I'm also getting a minimum of ~ 50 - 60 fps with these settings
plus Aniso = 8x, with fps going above 120 on e.g. the converted GPL Road
Circuits, with my 9700 Pro.
When I made the switch from Nvidia, I first changed the graphics card in
System Manager/Device Manager to a plain default PCI VGA standard card. Then
I rebooted into safe mode, and deinstalled all Nvidia stuff from within the
System Manager's Software Installer/Deinstaller applet.
Then I checked the Registry for references to Nvidia and deleted those
pertaining to the graphics card (I couldn't delete all Nvidia as I'm using
an Nforce2 board). For all I could tell there was one or two references
left, I forget which. They didn't seem critical but I deleted them anyway. I
also made sure the Nvidia graphic card's inf file(s) was (were)deleted, I
forget whether I had to do that manually.
I also checked in the Registry whether my system really only listed one
graphics adapter, and that one was set to PCI VGA Default graphics card
before I rebooted into Normal Mode.
Then I rebooted into normal mode and let Windows detect the card without the
ATI drivers in. Once Windows was on the desktop, I installed the ATI
drivers.
I'd choose safe mode for the deinstall as in my experience - although I
cannot prove this with facts or arguments - sometimes Windows deinstalls
things in Safe Mode more thoroughly.
This procedure is of course much faster and less painless than a full
reinstall, it takes ~ 5 minutes, but of course, unfortunately you can only
do this perfectly if you are a bit familiar with the OS. If you aren't, a
reinstall may be the better option.
