3DMark2001 Released

I just downloaded the new 3DMark2001 (graphic benchtest software)....it was
released this afternoon.  Don't try to get it from www.madonion.com
(developer's site)....its jammed and has been for most of the night.  ZDNet
has it...get it there (40 megs zipped, 110 megs installed).

Before doing anything, I loaded the "demo".......for those of you who have
not seen the 3DMark2000 demo....the entire program is worth downloading just
to watch the "game" demo.  The 2001 version....has been as eargerly awaited
as much as any "game release".....and deservedly so, I now think.

The 3DMark2001 demo runs about 3 minutes........it blew me out of my chair,
across the room....slammed into the east wall and slumped to the
floor.....jaw gapping open, drewl running down my t-shirt.......trying to
catch my breath......I sat there for a full five minutes gathering my senses
back.

If you have a V5 or a GF2 ULTRA.......256 megs (at least) of pc133 ram, at
least a 1 gig cpu........go get it now!  If you don't.......well, it
probably won't even run on your computer!

If this is any "preview" of the GF3 era to come..........OHHH MYYYY GOD!
I'm gonna let the dogs out!

Oh man, and I was so happy with my new PIII866 GFII GTS.. and now I
have to upgrade AGAIN! Oh well, GPL and N4 run fantastic now, perhaps
I won't upgrade my system for a demo then..
untill WSC comes along.

Hehe, know how you feel. It IS tempting to shell out 300$ for a slot-1
PIII 1000 100fsb to go with my BE6 and V5, or a new athlon system :)

1024x768 4xFSAA is probably worth it.

Well, without FSAA I have 36fps, with FSAA enabled I lose a couple of
fps at the start. Then I installed hires***pits for all the cars and
those 3d wheels for all the cars. Still 36fps, but when I enable FSAA
I loose too much fps at the start.
So now I've got to have a system fast enough for running GPL in 1024,
hires***pits and 3d wheels, 4xFSAA, AND keeping a steady 36fps at
the start.
Hmm.. will a P4 1.5 GFIII be fast enough for this? :)

Yeah, it is awesome. It actually does run on lower spec systems though.
If I drop down to 640x480, the demo runs pretty nicely on my 600Mhz,
GeForce DDR, 128MB system.
