I was disappointed with NFS2 after installing it on some intel P150
machines and trying network play. The papyrus products are much more
playable on machines of this caliber, in my opinion.
Then I tried NFS2 on a P233 machine. What a joy. I could finally get
the feel of the car. It is a much different game on a faster
computer. I then tried network play against some P166 machines. They
were only playable by shrinking the screen down (using F1) and/or
using less demanding graphics (using F2). All of the machines
mentioned have the Intergraph Readtor (now called the Intergraph
Intense 3D).
One more note: NFS2 is MUCH more an Arcade mode game, even though it
has both Arcade and Simulation modes. (i.e. Nascar2 in arcade mode is
still alot more like a simulation than NFS2 is in simulation mode.)
One more note: If you thought the SLIGHT pause when exiting Turn 4
and approaching a gang of cars in the pits in NASCAR2 was annoying,
you will hate NFS2. There are times then any SIMULATION aspect is
totally ruined by a sometimes one second LONG pause which happens when
you are close to another car.
One more note: If you thought the Nascar2 requirement that the CD be
placed in the hosting (answer) computer was a pain. (And I can see
both sides of this issue.) You will really be annoyed at the install
options for all the choices and scenarios of when you have the CD,
when you don't have the CD, etc. You actually install a different
client (75mb) that is used for network play clients. The good news is
that these network ONLY installs do not require the purchase of an
additional license. If you do decide to purchase a license for each
machine, then any machine can host and you will need to keep the CD in
all the machines (Yes, even if the game is 100% installed on the hard
drive taking up 100+MB of your dasd. The CD-ROM check is an
enforcement of the copyright. If you have several such games, this
gets annoying.)
