With the current setup, GPL allows you to get the feeling of racing by
putting you strait into the***pit with no training and no pointers.
There is the "4 wheel drift" book to help out but very few read it.
So,  In order to help out and teach us some odd things about racing,
I've come up with a couple ideas...

1.  (a take off from Mark Seery's idea)--> Wabbit run.  50% of the
drivers run with F1 cars and the other run with F3 cars.  The object to
this race is for the F3 cars to try to crash the F1's with out stopping
on coarse and with out driving counter race.  The F1's must try their
best to not get into a crash and make as many laps as possible.

Doing this, IMO, will help teach us accident avoidance.  Running in as
many as possible will help strengthen our "situation awareness".

2.   Camera placements.. Driving the F3 at Spa I seam to be entering the
first hard left after the left right at the start a bit too early every
lap I do.  All of the original camera angles cant show me what I need to
know to take it the right way.  What would help me is to have a
stationary camera mounted directly above the center of the corner (Blimp
view?).  Just high enough so that the whole corner can be seen.  This
way, I can see where my entry point is and where it should be.  If this
could be done for each corner at each track..... you get the point.

3.  (I'm sure you can come up with other things)..

Eh... how's about a tracking blimp view....  think that would be a lot
easier to implement.

Also, a non-colision version of the wabbit run might be usefull, maybe
substituting F2's for the F1's, and just have a practise at passing traffic.

Brian Heiland has some very good camera views for GPL on the Fast Lane site
in the patches section. http://www.the-fastlane.com/patches.htm

Jan, our league (MARA) has just finished a season of combined F1 and F2 racing.
Most of the races had anywhere from 6 to 8 in each class running the track at
the same time. We found that the F1 drivers did indeed learn the importance of
patience in passing and got very good at it. The F2 drivers, OTOH, got a lot of
practice in allowing faster cars to pass them safely. We tried to avoid getting
practice in collisions :-) Running different classes together is an interesting
experience and very valuable practice.

Hmmm. . . I was in an F3 race last night on VROC, and had noticed the words
"wabbitrun" in the comments--also the words "enter at your own risk."  I
wasn't sure what it meant (and still am not) and entered anyway.  To my
surprise, about 1/3 of the way through the race I was taken out by a
driver--M.Seery--running the opposite direction (this in an advanced damage
model race!).

Can someone explain this odd wabbit format?  (I know the part about the big
ears and the hopping about, by the way.)

Hehehehe... you did stumble on the wabbit run.

Here's how it works:

Half of the participants drive F3's, half F1's (wabbits). The object for the
F1 cars is to win the race, the object for the F3's is to prevent this at
all cost.

Guess Mark was driving an F3 at the time... ;-))

HEHEHEHE.....  You were the victim of a "fun" race.  It was put
together so that the F3 cars were to take out the F1 cars.  The F1 cars
were supposed to try their best to avoid the F3's.  Looks like *you*
lost some points and Mark won some ;-)

Back with GPL 1.0 and GSB 1.X,  we, the F3 cars, would setup a race
with "F3 CARS ONLY" in the comments field of GSB.  There were way too
many F1 cars that would join and ruin the race.  Even after asking them
politely to get an F3 car or leave, they would stay there and crash, and
crash, and crash....  A Wabbit, is a car of a higher "F" value then what
the race was intended for and refuses to leave.  To help get the point
across to the FX driver that he's not invited, we would try to "Bag a
Wabbit" (Elmor Fudd & Bugs Bunny).

Since we don't have wabbit's any more, Mark Seery created a "for fun"
race.  Here, the F3's would try to crash the F1's.... Mark could
probably explain it better ;-)
