Chicane out montreal (GP2)

Hi All,

When the real race took place at Montreal, I heard the commentator
from dutch TV say that they took out a chicane.

Any idea which one and has GP2 still got it ?

It was the stupid chicane made of tyres which was put into the middle of
the straight following the hairpin. It was total pants and really ruined
the circuit. GP2 doesn't have any of these "enhancements", and so it's
not in GP2.

Cheers!
John

Hi Gabrie,

If you have a plan of the Montral racing circuit (Gilles Villeneuve's
circuit) older than 1996, you will see what they use to call the "***
curve" (it was located on the south side of the circuit, right in front of
the *** building).

Since they removed that chicane, they now calling this part of the circuit
the "*** straight", and the fastest cars can now speed up to 315 km/h
(195 Mph) in this portion. I was there for the 1996 Grand Prix of Canada.
What a race it was !!!

For your question about if that chicane is still in GP2, I can't answer it
since in did not receive the game yet.

Actually, the tire chicane was placed in front of the old, high-speed
chicane
that was on the back straight.  In the '96 event, they removed the tire
chicane
AND the high-speed chicane, leaving the back straight almost completely
straight.
Is the old, high-speed chicane still there?

Yeah, the tyre chicane is shown in the manual I think. Looks a real
load of crap, I'm glad they skipped that baby!

If it was taken out after '94, GP2's probably still got it.

The current corner at the end of the start/finish straight of
Silverstone is still 2 corners in GP2. (Having driven around
Silverstone for real only 2 weeks before, I thought I knew that
corner, but it turned out to be a bit different in GP2 ;-)

Whatever it was I just said was probably just personal opinion
rather than the official view of my employer.

Copse is two corners in GP2, and is STILL two corners today. I think the
second corner is more exaggerated in GP2, whereas in real life it's more
of a gentle curve. The main difference is Stowe which is now a fast
right hander as opposed to the first gear hairpin in GP2. This corner
was changed for the '96 race.

It may be accurate, but I really preferred the old "Bridge" corner -
much more challenging.

Cheers!
