OK, a few questions for the new group....

1) What RPM should I shift at? I have no clue what the powerband is on my
   Williams ;)

2) Anybody have any magical 'settings' for courses? Everytime I get a car
really tricked up for qualifying, I get shafted on the downforce come
   racetime...

3) What is a good guide for diddling the brake balance? I can't really set
it up because the game doesn't allow me to determine which tyres lock
   first, and to what degree.

4) Why hasn't microprose released new track updates- Hungaroring is
thankfully out, but why no Africa or Donnington?

5) Is there any way to get the human-driven car up to a higher power output
than 716 (you need the F1ED.EXE to find this out)? No chance of setting
any records at Hockenheim in this man's car...

6) If there is an interest, I will e-mail a UUENCODED copy of the F1ED.EXE

Later....

Isn't this what the seperate Qualify/Race setup is for ?

look when the computer shifts and  add about 500 - 1000RPM.

At  monaco, set the car up for max downforce, thats 64f  64r  and
set  your  gears  accordingly, starting  with  top,  keeping  the
3, 4, 5,6 very close.  This is the easiest  track  to  completely
anihilate the computer.

can't  really  set > it up because the game doesn't allow  me  to

if  you have a lot of tight corners following fast straights  set
it  to the front and it will halp the back turn in.  Not in  real
life tho' but it seems to work for me!

Actually, I don't think there is a difference in the power band of the WC
HUMAN driven cars.  ie Williams vs the Mclaren.... I have never seen any
advantages by switching. I think when your RPM gets to ~11K or 12K it
is time to shift. This was one of the parts of WC I find lacking. (also
one of the positive points of INDYCAR)

On street courses (MonteCarlo) I use maximum wings, & adjust everything
for that. On the road courses, I find that wings do help some, but not
alot. I find the driving style & the rythem essential. Nothing makes up for
good driving. There are no magical settings, as everyone is different.

I don't know about this. When you adjust your brake balance, you are adjusting
which tires lock first. Adjusting the balance forward will cause the front
brakes to lock first. Causing your car to turn sharper. (This effect is only
present during braking though.)

Good question...

I think some people have SHATTERED the record at hockenhiem, by cutting thru
some esses... :(

I totally agree:
I was able to break the trackrecord by about 1 to 1.5 sec without cutting any
chicanes or anything, and  i was driving with a power output of 716.
Also I run some other cars at 825 to make them competitive.

Personal opinion of course, but lately I've been reducing the amount of wing
on the rear - usually setting it to about 10-15 less than the front.
Helps the car turn in that much better... and you can actually use a bit of
throttle control to steer.  :-)

                              ^^^^

Ah, you're getting somewhere. Running the computer cars at high HP (850-900)
will allow you to get an excellent 'tow' down Hockenheim's 4 straights. If
you position yourself just right when going into the corners leading
onto these straights (you can brake later than the other cars, so positioning
even when 175 hp down is no problem) you should reach speeds around 220-230mph
down the straights prior to the braking zones - does wonders to your
lap time :)

Cameron

P.S. The same goes for Monza.
P.P.S. With the top 10 computer cars running 850+, you dont stand a chance
at Hockenheim or Monza (although, as pointed out above, you'll get great
personal lap times) but the championship should still be a doddle (you
should be able to win all the other races, Suzuka being a close call).
