Ok, here's what to do:
The patch is on the Nasacr Hawaii BBS server in Boston. As far as I know
it's not reachable via the Internet; you must dial direct.
To get access, simply download the latest version of the Hawaii Multiplayer
patch for Nascar (easily found using a search engine on the Web). Unpack
the patch in your Nascar directory and configure the Nascar terminal
program by running ETERM.BAT. Then, dial the Boston BBS using the TERM.EXE
program and follow the instructions (there is a bulletin in the
BBS greeting that tells you exactly how to get the patch). The file is
about 1.2 mb long and I was able to d/l it in about 15 minutes on a 28.8
modem.
IF YOU DON'T HAVE NASCAR...here's what to do:
Make a directory on C: (or whatever) called NASCAR, change to that
directory and, using any DOS editor (EDIT is good, hint :-)), create a
new file called NASCAR.EXE and put a few characters in it. Save the file,
exit the editor, unpack the Hawaii patch in the same directory, run
ETERM.BAT to configure then run TERM.EXE to connect. I *do* own Nascar but
was at work when I found out how to get the IRC2 patch and, of course,
Nascar isn't installed on my machine there so had to improvise. :-)
I just don't understand why Sierra hasn't posted the ICR2 patch yet - it
definetly exists. I would be happy to post it to a public site provided it
is legal to do so. Please let me know.
Regards,
Mike Kelly
p.s. The version I d/l'd was 1.0.2 for the original DOS CD (version
1.0.0) - owners of the Win95 CD should also be interested in the patch
because *their* DOS version of IRC2 is only 1.0.1 (what the difference is,
I dunno). There is also a 1.0.1 to 1.0.2 patch on the BBS.
