Rally Masters crashes after DirectX upgrade

by ss » Sun, 06 Jan 2002 21:31:24

Since installing DX8.1, I cannot get Rally Masters to work on my computer
anymore.  I can't confirm that the DX upgrade is the culprit, but that's the
only significant and recent change to my system I can think of.  When I try
to launch the game now, the titles and Infrogames logo show up, then the
screen just goes black and I ultimately have to reboot the system.

To try to remedy the problem I have tried the following:
1. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game
2. I re-installed Direct X
3. I uninstalled and reinstalled my video card drivers

All to no avail.

Can anyone suggest another course of action?

My system specs:

Windows ME (Japanese version, but I don't think that should matter)
DX 8.1 (game seemed to work fine under 8.0)
GF2 MX video card running Nvidia 23.11 reference drivers
MS Precision Pro 2 USB joystick
P3 866 w/ 256MB RAM (on a cheapo generic motherboard that came with system)

Thanks in advance,
SS

Rally Masters crashes after DirectX upgrade

search on the web for two things:

(1) a program that really, completly, removes a direct x install.  I
know its out there, just can't remember what its called.

(2) an earlier version of directx.  There is a web site out there (not
microsoft) that archives versions of directx dating back to the very
earliest versions.

uninstall directx, run that program that really gets rid of, then
install the most recent version that was working before you're
upgrade.

Rally Masters crashes after DirectX upgrade

I've been running DX8.1 and Rally Masters just fine for quite some time now.
I am running Windows 98SE however not ME, so perhaps that could have
something to do with it?

You might want to try the no-cd patch, which you used to be able to get at
www.gamecopyworld.com but you could also try the "patches and scrolls" site.
