Is it that I can't play games like Psygnosis's F1 or NFS2SE without a 3dfx
card?

Can't that 3d accelerating thing be compensated by a faster CPU(I am
using a P-II 300)?

No it cannot. Your CPU could be 900mhz and you would still be using
the old standard graphics. The 3DFX card gives you more graphics options.
Like fog, bi-linear filtering Z-buffering, perspective correction. i.e. Cool stuff.
At the moment a P5-166 with 3DFX card is all that is required. For 3DFX
games :-) Which is why many people will not purchase games anymore
unless they support 3DFX. Even Direct3D does not cut it. It must be 3DFX.

The 3DFX runs games at 640 x 480 with 65000 colours.

You are gonna need a 2000MHZ Pentium IV with AGP to do this without
3DFX!

3D enabled games use either Microsoft Direct 3D (D3D) or 3DFX Glide.
3DFX cards can run both. Psygnosis F1 supports both of these but for
D3D you have to have a high end 4MB 3D card. The 3DFX only mode of
the game is so superior to the D3D mode that it just isn't funny.

Save yourself the headaches. Dip into those pockets, grimace and
get yourself a 3DFX card. (Pure 3D or Monster 3D in order of
preference).
