New ICR series announced!

Although this may look like an America Online Only event, it should be
open
to all interested drivers from the internet. Not sure about the time stamp
thing, though.

IndyCar Challenge Cup is Announced this past week!

by Ralf "Sabata" Southard

The IndyCar Challenge Cup (ICCC) is designed to pit all participating
drivers against each other in the most equally balanced series to date.
Loosely based on the International Race of Champions, the ICCC [or I3C]
will put AOL's IndyCar drivers in equally setup cars.

Thorough testing of the format and scoring system has led us to believe
that
the ICCC will be a series all IndyCar Racing owners will enjoy.  Drivers
compete against each other based on their cunning, reflexes, and driving
ability.  Although technical applications can be learned from this
series,
no garage or pit abilities are necessary.  These aspects are what
attracts
drivers to the ICRS, and that's the way we want to keep it.  The ICCC
will
allow novice drivers the chance to race neck-and-neck with the pros,
regard-
less of mechanical abilities.  The directors of the ICRS and LICS were
greatly involved in the testing of this format, and we feel that
participants will be challenged.

There are many aspects of the ICCC that set it apart from the ICRS.  One
of
them is the implementation of consistent restrictions throughout the
season.
Every race in the series will include the following conditions:

     NO DAMAGE
     NO YELLOW FLAGS
     NO PACE LAP
     NO PIT STOPS
     NO GARAGE ADJUSTMENTS

All races will be run with these settings.  The last restriction is very
important.  For all of the participants to compete against each other in
identical cars, no adjustments may be made to any of the cars in ICCC.
No
pitstops are permitted either.  If a tire blows, that's the end of your
race.

The IndyCar Challenge Cup also introduces America Online's time-stamp to
IndyCar Racing's drivers.  Race conditions and car setups will be sent
via
e-mail to all those taking part.  Participants will be given a time
period
of 60 to 90 minutes to read the e-mail, download the car, run the race,
rename the RESULTS.TXT file and mail it back to the director.

If you have been participating in the IndyCar Racing Series (ICRS), you
are already signed up for this series, and will receive the
aforementioned
e-mail.  If you are interested and you are not in the ICRS, please e-mail
SABATA to be added to the mailing list.

More details and the complete rules and scoring system will be available
in
TXT and WRI files in the Grandstand's Racing Library as the series
approaches.

The first race is scheduled to be "announced" on Tuesday, April 19th.

One additional note:  At press time, it is still being decided whether a
special CARS.DAT file (called ICCC.DAT) will be required to run in this
series.  This would also mean that the same chassis and engine would be
used
throughout a particular ICCC season.  It would most likely include a
current
1994 driver lineup in identical cars, separated only by estimated driving
ability and experience.  More on this as the story develops.
