It was nice of CBS to let us view the race occasionally in between the
commercials. Good riddance CBS !

It just seemed to me like they went to commercials at the wrong times.

I think I am going to stop watching races at Daytona and Talledega
altogether. 7/8" restrictior plates, 6700 rpm, 185 mph laps. *yawn*.
Just make the restrictor plates 1/4", you would have really safe racing,
at 80 mph.
   Boring!

Although there were too many commercials with unfortunate timing, I thought the
coverage was exceptionally good.  The positions were reported constantly,
allowing one to see where their favorite driver was within a minute of tuning
in, and the announcers were explaining things concisely without yammering on.
I got the impression that they were leaning toward new viewers.  They even
managed to make the parade of the last four laps seem exciting.

From Speedvision.com:

Dale Earnhart on "plate" racing:

"I've heard some drivers say we're going too fast at C***te, going too
fast here get the hell home! If you're not a race car driver, not a racer,
stay home. Don't come here and grumble about you're going too fast. Stay the
hell home!

"Get out of the race car if you've got feathers on your legs or on your ass.
Get out. Put the damn kerosene rags around your ankles so the damn piss-ants
won't climb up there and eat that candy ass."

Do you get the feeling he doesn't like plate racing?<g>

Expect more of the same next year :-(

Let's face it, network television just doesn't do auto racing well. Leave it
to ESPN, ESPN2, Speedvision, or TNN but the greedy bastards at NASCAR went
for the big bucks, and we as fans will end up paying the penalty.

I think ABC outdid them with the CART race today -- they must have take
commercial breaks every 5 freaking laps.  Then, they can't stick around to
properly interview the winner because they have to cover golf (can't we miss a
shot or two of the golf???)  AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!

Well I thought the race was pretty exciting as well. There were some
interesting moments with Benson, and also I was waiting for Gordon to get
his car running right.

Fortunately I didn't watch a single commercial during the event, due to
satellite feeds (which you don't get with non network races, it's amazing
what you miss, and the announcers were verbally disappointed that they had
to go to commercial breaks at certain times, and relieved that it's the last
commercial break.

It would have been a lot more exciting if the engines were turning
more that 6700 rpm. Hell, just have them drag 2 ton sleds around the
track. That should slow them down, and the sparks would be pretty. As
one who actually saw non-restrictor plate racing at Daytona, what they
have now simply is not exciting. How many passes did you see in the last
10 laps among the front five cars btw? None. Same as last year, etc.

This sounds *so* much like the way in which F1 fans moan - we don'g get
overtaking in that, either. But I don't think rpm makes a difference -
F1 cars rev to 14,000 and beyond, and it's no more exciting as far as
the racing goes.

I've seen non-restrictor racing, too.  While current races might not have 3-4
passes every lap, and single cars breaking away, I don't think they're
BORING...

It's *usually* interesting when they have after-race interviews.  I felt
cheated that this didn't happen today...especially given all the incidents.. :(
