boot problem with MSI 6330 Lite 3 board and Athlon 1400.

Hi

I upgraded from Duron 800 to Athlon 1400, and now I have a boot
problem. When I restart from Windows it does not boot anymore, hangs
before the BIOS screen, and LED are red red green red. I have a 235 W
power ATX supply, is that the problem?

When I boot after a few minutes the problem is gone. After being up
only one minute and then reboot the problem is there. System runs
stable as long as i do not boot, even when running a cpu intensive sim
as F1 CS 2000.

Could be.  I'm thinking of building/buying an Athlon machine and
the word is that you want a 300 watt PS for a typical PC (up to four
drives), even more for a server (more drives/devices).  Booting/
rebooting is the time when you've got the biggest current draw.  :(

So what WE need is a a mechanical device that attaches to the PC, and
smashes a suitably expensive part of it each time we go off the track!

I have one of these. It happens whenever I hit the walls while winning in
NASCAR 4 or just after overshooting my parking space in GP3 and slamming
into the car ahead of me, wrecking both vehicles. It's called my***and
usually it deals the monitor, my keyboard, or both a vicious smack.
Unfortunately, the keyboard is not as strong as my monitor and my brand new
QuietKey is in keyboard heaven now.

I'd agree, the power supply is more than likely the culprit,
especially if the only change was to a 1.4ghz athlon. Most places
recommend going to a 350W or even a 400W with such high speed CPUs.
The current draw is pretty huge on them.

Maybe you could borrow a mates PSU to test this out?

I have a second PC, with 300 W PSU, but I think I will just buy a new
300 W one, it must be the problem. I dont want to spoil the other pc,
not even for a short time.

Thanks for the help.

Didn't think of that! I must admit, my Logitech WingMan FF has taken some
punishment in similar fashion. Sturdy piece of equipment, though... <8)

When I built my own PC I ran into a similar problem.  Try the following:-

Go into BIOS and then

Advanced BIOS Settings -->  scroll down until you find -

"Delay For IDE Initial (Secs) X"    (Change X to something like 2 or 3.
Mine is set at 2)

Certainly worth a try.

I am running a GF2 GTS with an Athlon 1Ghz and a 250W power supply.  This
cured my boot problems.  If this doesn't work, try searching the comp
newsgroups using Google for an answer http://groups.google.com/

Cheers
