I know, Eldred, but we know that the reason that certain body panels have to
conform to a template is so that there is some minimal resemblance to stock.
I think the resemblance is what makes this kind of racing so popular in
America.

Putting a smaller wheel in the car is probably unnecessary as it would make
the car too twitchy (unless compensated for elsewhere) and it would slightly
diminish the psychological illusion that these are "stock" cars. It is
certainly an illusion, but if the required conformities were no longer
required, popularity of the sport would drop precipitously.

Decklid, roof & hood.

Maintaining a resemblance is key to the popularity of the sport.

Decklid, roof, & hood.

All else is illusion, but necessary to keep the sport popular.

Fwiw, I don't know about that.  Nobody really considers them semblances of
showroom, stock cars, especially compared to the past.  In fact, they all
use common templates now, for that matter(Nascar cleverly snuck them in
under the rug, after the "IROC" debate a few years back).

Manufacturer loyalty is NOTHING compared to what it used to be like, among
fans, IMO.  It's main reason for popularity in the past IMO, was close
quarter, side by side racing, among other things.

Now, much of it's popularity is do to marketing, it's a fad, and it's the
latest "cool, to be seen at" fad to a degree...............IMO  :)

I don't even think those are stock.  Some coworkers of mine have done
wind tunnel work with these guys, and I believe they told me that for
sheetmetal changes they had to stay within an inch of the centerline
template.  An inch can make a big difference, and I'm certain they are
all taking advantage of that.

I don't think they can get away with an inch from what I've read, but you're
right - they will certainly use the tolerance to their advantage!

Calling ***CAB stock car racing is a pipedream.

Unless that is too slow and then NASCAR lets them change it as much as needed to
make them "competitive".

  Lol, good point.

Do bigger wheels make NASCAR sims easier?

I think I heard on one of the race shows recently that the current stock car
rules require the cars to use the actual hood roof and deck lid sheet metal
dimensions from the street cars.
