Thanks Marc, for clearing that up. However, next time check your facts
before posting your article! Now it costs me 5 years of my life. <g>

There will be a N2000 with annual updates for 2001, 2002, etc.
There will also be a completely separate product called N3 with the GPL
engine with a separate mode for those wanting simpler physics that will be
released sometime next year.
So basically they will be competing with themselves in the modern day NASCAR
sim market after the release of N3. Does that make any sense?
Why commit at E3 to a N2000 product WITH annual updates if there will be a
direct competitor to those updates in the form of a completely redisigned,
superior Nascar sim called N3?
I suspect that if they are in fact going to commit to releasing N2000 with
updates as stated at E3, then there are no concrete plans for N3. I hope I'm
wrong but I cannot understand why they would continue to devote development
dollars to producing updates to N2000 with its older technology if N3 has
been released.
Perhaps N3 will be released as an update to N2000?
Here is the update in full. Sorry, Marc, for violating your
copyright and depriving your site of hits, but I think after shouting
"fire" in a crowded theater, it's important to shout "never mind!"
even louder. :)
-----start update-----
[Editor's Addendum: N3 Update]
According to sources close to SRN, N2000 and NASCAR Legends will be
based on the N2 engine and are planned for a fall release. Both of
these are completely different projects from that of NASCAR-3.
Both N2K and NL will contain some of the graphical enhancements from
GPL, such as transparent smoke, sparks and the "groove", and that the
AI should be improved considerably from that of N99. There may also be
minor tweaks to the physics model as well, but whether it will be
based on another 3D engine is unclear.
However, N3 is still under development, and last reported will be
still be based on the GPL engine. Unfortunately, its release date has
been moved back until sometime next year. The reason seems to be
because N3 requires more CPU power than GPL, and this is probably due
(at least in part) to N3's larger fields. Papyrus is concerned that
there's simply aren't enough people out there with machines that could
run N3 well enough given current technologies. Papyrus may also be
looking at ways
to make N3 a little easier and more appealing for novices and casual
users.
We'll keep you posted!
-----end update-----
In other words, N3 is just late, and CART2 will be even later (if
it is at all). :( Bad enough, but not the end of the world as we
know it.

nothing to be frightened of, and no limit, any fool could get into
a motor car and racing would not exist as a sport." -- Jim Clark

Rather than a URL of the definition, perhaps a more apposite addition
would be a URL of the "positive review" of NASCAR3 required to support
the definition. Without that presumably we can conclude it not to be
vapourware?
