Rally Masters controller input lag

by ss » Sat, 25 May 2002 09:24:24

Just reinstalled Rally Masters on my computer and patched it to version 3.2.
Everything looks good, and framerates are good, but I am getting a strange
effect with all controller inputs.  I use a USB joystick (Sidewinder
Precision 2), and whether I'm accelerating, braking, turing with the X or Y
axis,  or using a button to shift gears, my controller inputs don't seem to
'register' in the game until as much as a second or two later.  If I try to
rev the engine at the start line, for instance, the tach does nothing at
first, then all of a sudden jumps up a half-second or so later.... same
effect applies to all other inputs.  Although this might be an interesting
way to simulate the effects of drunken driving....the novelty wears off very
quickly :-)

The controller setup options in Rally Masters are very minimal, so I
couldn't find any way to fix it in game.  In Windows, I checked through the
control panel,  and the joystick is correctly registered and calibrated.  I
also tried toggling VSync on and off, but all to no avail.

The joystick works perfectly fine in every other game (and I must have 8 or
10 racing games installed), and in the past, it has worked with Rally
Masters.

Any thoughts on what might be causing the problem?  (Incidentally, I don't
think it should be relevant, but I was having trouble with Rally Masters
consistently freezing up at the start of the intro video even with a fresh
install.  To avoid that problem, I had to attach the '-nointro' tag to the
shortcut link in order to bypass the intros.)

Thanks,
Itazura

RM has probably the most comprehensive controller setup
options in any racer. In the controller setup screen, click
on the 'response curve' text at the right of any button or axis..
