It's only a few months away.   So is this an "old" date, then?

Over the past twnet-four hours I have seen several different release dates
mentioned; Q4 2001, Q2 2002, and now Q3 2001.

The release date hasn't been altered, because it isn't really clear. Q3 2001
will certainly not be made. It's more likely the game will be released Q1
2002...

Notice the PS2 version isn't done by the Wests themselves; this may
take some time, as Empire wants to release both versions
simultaneously, IIRC.
And there's ofcourse the license issues; there are a lot of cars
already, but they just need the licensing for as many of them as
possible.
But the game exists, no doubt about that. And they're just
enthusiastic (with reason) about their own project. It's just games
these days take so much time to complete, but mostly you never hear
too much about it until it's close to done. That's the difference.

I am speculating this one is the most accurate. Being a flight-simmer
I know what Empire is like when it comes to releasing games. They are
most likely to push WSC out the door for the xmas rush whether it is
ready for prime time or not.
