is the angle of the mirrors adjustable in the car models?

or in 'car setup' in gpl2? :-)

i'd like to see directly behind me when in the ferrari.

GPL: adjustable mirrors

by Michael Barlo » Fri, 23 Apr 1999 04:00:00

I posted this before on the TEN NG and have sent a letter to
papyrus.   what I would like to see is a point of reference for depth
perception in the mirrors...

In my Geo Storm I have both side mirrors set so I can see the side
of the car on the very edge of the mirrors. In the rear view mirror, I
have it set so I can see the inside roof on the top edge of the mirror.
With these setup that way I have some depth perception in the image in
the mirrors.

I would set my mirrors up in GPL so that in one edge of the mirrors
I could see the edge of my rear tires.  That alone would be a BIG
improvement in knowing "Where" somebody is behind me.  Then, if we are
able to adjust the mirror angles..  We would see more of the rear tires
if we move the mirrors in, and less if we move the mirrors out.

The more depth perception we have, the better we can judge our
actions.

GPL: adjustable mirrors

by Chris Schlette » Fri, 23 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Alright, now I understand all of Mike's problems and his utter fascination
with GPL and N2 and being able to race simulated REAL cars online. ;)

Other than that I agree to some extent....except that I find the mirrors in
GPL to be rather useless unless the guy is right behind you.  I find it more
useful to listen to the cars...perhaps if there was a better frame of
reference for the mirrors it'd help, like say an increase fov in them so
that you could see the back wheel as Mike suggested.

One other note, or improvement, would be to be able to increase the width
of the mirrors.. i.e.; I don't know what the angle of view is in GPL so
I'll just toss some figures in for reference..  At the moment we can see 45
degrees behind and to the side of us..

what I would like to see is 80 degrees

HeHee..I've always thought that someone should make training mirrors for the
young ferrari drivers...I think jackie stewart came to me in a dream :)
