Solution for the GPL Zonealarm Problem

by Rob19 » Mon, 06 Oct 2003 20:53:10

Hi everyone,

after trying Zonealarm and GPL for years I
finally found a working solution (with the help of
numerous threads - so thx to all of you).

The following might be of interest to you:

1. Allow ZA to give access to GPL by either inserting
gpl.exe manually into ZA or by pressing the Y key
when GPL tries to connect to a server (normally you
would see a popup window - that isnt shown in the
GPL graphic mode). Anyway - the Y key works (same
like pressing YES in the pop-up window).

Later go into ZA and allow GPL access and server rights
so that you wont be asked by the hidden pop-up window
every time you connect.

2. disable ZA option "On top during Internet activity"

3. disable "show alert pop-up window" in ZA

4. disable "automatic lock" in ZA

Whenever GPL hangs online - first try to press the Y or N
key - you will answer a possible ZA pop-up window and GPL
can continue.
The real problem of GPL and ZA (complete hang) is solved
by points 2,3 and 4. These ideas are from a number of threads
I have followed - so not my invention. But they work...

Greetings
Rob (passionate GPL driver ;o)

Moving to Sygate Personal Firewall fixed my Zonealarm problems,
although I don't play GPL.

I was just pointing out a more reliable Firewall than Zonealarm (not
hard). It works for all my other online ***, so I was just
qualifying by saying that I don't play GPL.

Can't all the ZA problems with GPL be overcome by using ZApro?  That
gives you the option to preselect programs that get access to the net as
opposed to waiting for the pop-up window(which can't pop up in GPL)
dave henrie
I use Kerio's free personal firewall btw....It used to be called Tiny
Firewall.

Dave, TPF still being developed/supported?

I was looking for that SW oh about 5 months ago, something made me think it
was dropped, but I could be wrong...
