I've recently been spending some time racing F1GP with a friend via
an Null Modem link.  This is of course great fun, and also quite
educational.  Its evry interesting to see the differences in our
driving styles round any given track.

This got me thinking ...

Wouldn't it be nice if F1GP2 could produce Telemetry Traces?

Two (or more) drivers could then compare their traces to see where
they were each gaining/losing time.

This feature would probably be quite simple to implement, since the
system already has all the data to hand - it just needs to log it for
an entire lap.

Here's hoping ...

Can you say "GPPerf"? If not, go to http://www.mal.com/~dgymer/f1gputil
and grab it and gpanyl, or FTP to didnt.doit.wisc.edu and hunt around
for the anylpak.zip file. Of course, it would be nice if F1GPv2 had
this built in, but it's on the wish list. Perhaps my weekly pointers to
the FAQ are not enough?

You can already do this.  An odd-on called GPperf captures the data, with
sampling every 16 feet or so.  I have personally found lap comparisons to
be very informative and helpful, although I confess that at first I
thought it was a little "gimmicky".  In part due to the telemetry, my
lap times have rapidly come down.

You can get GPperf and more in the ANYLPAK.ZIP file via FTP to:

FTP://DIDNT.DOIT.WISC.EDU/publicfiles/racing/f1gp/editors/

Just try to use it in off-peak hours (it's Peter Burke's Mac and he's
in Wisconsin).
