temperature up for the next month so and flame anyone who ahs the cheek to
say that GP3 is  (gasp) good!

I'll have a shot at this one!

**********************************************
Alpha of Typical RAS GP3 Review , july xx 2000
**********************************************

(July 21st)

"Downloaded the warezversion last night. Yeah, I know I'm not supposed to do
that kind of stuff. But that $*%"&!! Crammond guy is not going to get my money
if he didn't bother to listen to his customers. I wanted to make sure that he
hasn't kept that fixed framerate ***in. And looking at GP2, wasn't too sure
about the performance on my lousy PIII 800 with GeForce2 either. If I think GP3
needs a patch, I won't bother and wait for GP4 instead.."

"The graphics look rather nice (not that they are really important to
me).Dynamic rain effects are impressive, but who needs them? Framerate sucks in
software mode (what the hell was he thinking when he lost his time on a software
engine???). Really disappointed they didn't bother supporting T&L. Is this
supposed to be cutting edge? I only get 43 fps average, and it drops to an
unplayable 30 at the back of the grid in Monaco (ouch!). For some reason, the
resolution is limited to 2048*1600. Now they have hardware, and they don't use
it. Surely the experience with GP2 should have rung a bell at Microprose!!"

"Also, I couldn't believe my eyes: there is only 1 lousy carshape and***pit in
this "ultimate F1 sim". The old (98!) season didn't bother me that much, but
this... Not only the shapes are the same, each car has the same characteristics
as well. God, even 2-3 year old sims did better in that respect! Need something
to sell us a GP4 later this year?"

"Why is there a turning wheel on screen? I already *have* a wheel on my desk!!.
Doesn't look like a real***pit either. This is arcade."

"After just two days, I already noticed a curb in Montreal that is at least 10
inches too wide. WHY don't they actually USE all that accurate information from
the FIA??"

"But graphics are just a bonus really. What counts are the physics (sorry,
"Physics"  ;-)  ) So let's go to the driving:"

"I must say that, after having driven GPL, GP3 is way too easy to control. I
barely needed 2 days to keep the car on the track for 5 laps. Crammond has
clearly dumbed down the Physics for the mainstream market. Oh well, investing
processor cycles in rain reflections seems to be more important than coming up
with a genuine physics model. Just for laughs I checked out the "physics" in
this sim by trying to do some wet laps with the keyboard (he still supports it!
:-)  ). Guess what: I could actually drive around like that. So much for physics
<G> Also in one of my races I overtook 4 cars. In real F1, they need half a
season to do this!!! There's way too much fun in this "sim" to be anything like
real."

"When it comes to AI, it is actually quite smart. But I don't give a damn about
AI frankly. I wanna race real people online. But what the hell is this! Spent at
least half an hour looking for the online multiplayer menuscreen and it turns
out there is NO ONLINE PLAY OPTION? Hello!! Mister Crammond!! WAKE UP! We are in
2000."

"Final conclusion: not bad, but no GPL. I'll wait for the patch"

;-)

Er....nope I don't.

Do I sound that daft.?

Guess it must be the drink.

Its either that or I've just had a session with GPL.

I re-installed it a week ago..to try and give it another welly,
but nah...its still a ring tightener.

I'm totally ***at it.

I'm not exactly sure why...but I think getting lapped twice at
the ring once(?)had something to do with it...talk about soul
destroying...I felt a complete dipshit.

I know most of the pixel racers here think its the bee's knees
but fer me it just brings on the angina.

Nope...I like SCGT, GP2, Driver and F12000.

I think racing should be fun.

GPL is like doing double-maths at school.

You're concentrating as hard as you can, even think you've got
it sussed but you know in your heart of hearts that you're a
complete plonker at it.

At least with GP3 I'll be able to keep the car on the
ground....er well...hopefully.

Roll on the 28th.

At least we'll have something new to grumble about.

Ian.
