IndyCar pit stops??

by Michael Ci » Thu, 27 Jul 1995 04:00:00

Hello, everyone..

I have a question concerning IndyCar pit stops-just exactly what gets done
when coming in during a race??

On one hand, it seems like you have to do everything yourself (using the
cursor keys to increase fuel, etc) and on the other, it sometimes says,
'Waiting' and I'm not sure exactly what is happening.  I guess maybe I've
gotten spoiled with the nice pit-radio communications in NASCAR where they
only change what you want them to change and you don't have to futz with any
cursor keys...

So, what is the situation??  How would I change only one tire, for example??
The stupid cursor keys could be kinda lame for this...

Any comments, guidance, criticisms, etc. welcome,

Thanks in advance,

Seeya,

Mike

It will take time to manuever through the menus, but just go to tires
and select the tire you want to change.  You'll hafta to be extra
careful though to not change the wrong one.  Usually what I do is just
stop, fill up the tank, then go through the tires and change them all.
It'll just follow through the menu all by itself.  You just gotta hit
return.

"Waiting" simulates waiting for the refueling to be completed.  You'll
notice in an
actual Indycar race that the tires are always changed before the refueling
is completed.

I don't know why you would want to change just one tire -- it doesn't
really save you any time (as it would in Nascar where the jack man must go
from one side to the other) and you definitely risk a blowout if your
tires get too worn.

One good reason would be if the one tire was in serious danger of blowing
but you were near the end of the race and wanted/needed a lot of grip and
don't want to heat up an entire set of tires to get the grip.  Other than
that...
