A stupid question I know, but....

Will you be able to play the game without a 3dfx card? I have all the other
requirements, just not the card.

Hello

I doubt that Nascar 3 will be "playable" without a 3DFX
of rendition card. A good test is the Grande Prix Legends
demo. I have a P166mmx 32 meg with a standard Trio 2D/3D card
and I'm lucky if I get 6-8 frames per second with ALL detail
set to OFF in 640x480 mode.
BUT I have also set up a P133 with a cheap
brandname-less Voodoo 1 3DFX and it ran the GPL demo very
nicely.
I am looking at getting a Voodoo II , even though my P166mmx
will hold it back, it will at least hit it's potential if I
manage to get a PII in the distant future.

Currently, 3dfx or rendition cards are the only real option. As you have
discovered, the software rendering makes the game unplayably slow on any other
system.

Hopefully Papyrus will acknowledge reality and add a directx6 implementation to
Nascar 3. The slew of really good cards are coming out (Riva TNT, G200, etc.)
will make directx6 a must for new games.

If you don't mind playing tennis with a ping pong bat then you won't need a 3dfx or
rendition card. This is true of pretty much anything these days. No 3D card = obsolete
computer. Even with a PII400 I dare say.

First of all: why don't you buy a 3dfx-card ?? The Voodoo I is so
damned cheap nowadays - and I promise you: it's worth every cent ;-)

But apart from that: AFAIK it will run even without a 3dfx card but
take a look at F1RS and see, why I advise 3dfx ;-D

Also, man mailt sich...
