Any news about the future of Papyrus?

I've just got N3.... but I wonder about a possible new sim in the near
future.
Can we hope for a CART sim (or NASCAR...) with GPL physics in y2k?

Papyrus survived the recent Sierra reorganization so it's future
should be ok.  I haven't seen anything concrete about ANY future CART
product.  I think the plan is to release a Craftsmen Truck expansion pak
for N3 and then update N3 by Xmas next year...still probably without
using the GPL engine.

I doubt that Kaemmer's Nascar sim will go another year without being
released.  My guess is that they are continuing to work on it as we speak,
and if we're lucky maybe we'll see something by next summer.

Whenever we see it - it will take over as the sim of sims IMO.

Hmm, I wonder how long papy will continue the numbering process of Nascar
games.......4, 5, maybe switch to Roman numerals.  I think a Nascar game
based on the gpl engine would be a revolution of sorts........hehe, wait,
wasn't there already a Nascar Revolution? =P  Can we revoke a title if the
game is clearly not revolutionary?

Sorry, no more thinking, back to racing!

A Nascar sim can never become the sim of sims, in my humble opinion.

What is it with this NASCAR thing? Incomprehensible...

Is it really that much dough in Nascar sim racing? Is the american market THAT
big?

Let's put it this way.  Papyrus was founded by Open Wheel racing fans.
The first several efforts were all open wheel.  Nascar was sort of a
sideline venture, the Hawaii multiplayer experiment, the upgraded
graphics, that was all gonna payoff in the Indycar sim....welllllll
7 or 8 Nascar products later, we are still waiting for another CART
update.  The core of the old Papyrus is gone, only the original big
cheese David K is left..how well did his last open wheel title sell???
Yes Nascar is huge...you can't believe the money comming in.  Why are
so many racing series in America in trouble??  Cuz Nascar is sucking up
the TIME, Money, and TV coverage.
Nascar recently signed an exclusive TV package instead of spreading it
around as in the past.  This "could" be a good thing as it will force
the networks that got left out to scramble for "some" sort of racing to
air.  The American LeMans Series just might benefit the most.  But as
long as TG (whose name I shan't utter) keeps the open wheel racing in a
devided state of chaos, you won't see any product with the might of
Nascar.

Do Indy500 was the first Papyrus game ?

I've bought my first joystick espcially for this game, the PC was
an Amstrad PC1512, in CGA monochrome, 3h hour to complete a full race :o)
And i remember , if somebody moved the mouse it created inteference on
the joystick and often you finished on the wall :o) How many times
i had to run after my syster because she killed me in a mouse-indycar
crash ? :o)

i'd like to know if papyrus sell more units in US or in the rest of the
world ? because Indycar is more popular than Nascar in Europe.

According to ESPN, Dale Jarrett is the world's best race driver of 1999...

http://espn.go.com/auto/nascar/news/1999/1201/206089.html

And a drag racer finishes ahead of Mika Hakkinen.

Is drag racing really driving?  To me "driving" a car implies turning the
steering wheel at some point.

Certainly Mika can't be considered the Worlds Greatest Driver based on
this year's efforts.  He repeatedly made crtitical mental errors that
resulted in the Championship being drawn out far too long.  While I will
agree he definately derserves the World Championship, his erratic
driving this past season is reason enough to knock his ranking down a
peg or two...
I know the F1 lads will get in an uproar over this, but the true
drivers...the RALLY pilots...hardly got a mention did they?

You can't be serious.

Well, Dave since both the world champion in Formula 1 and in World Rally
championship are from Finland they are getting very much coverage over here
<G>. In fact the biggest problem is which one of them will be named the
driver of the year in Finland. Hakkinen has won two championships in a row
now and Tommi Makinen has won an unprecedented four championships in a row
in WRC. My vote this year would go to Tommi Makinen.

And talking about mistakes, didn't Schumi make a mistake when he broke his
leg and thus was unable to compere for the title this year? I can't remember
anyone giving a comprehensive explanation of car failure resulting in
Schumi's crash in Silverstone. To me it looked like Michael was in a hurry
to get past his teammate, got into the dirty part of the track, maybe even
drove too fast for that part of the track and simply lost it all by himself.
They all make mistakes every now and then after all.

Yes they do..I thought Schumi's axident was explained as total rear
brake failure.  Sure he was charging hard inside Irvine, but there was
no braking at all even after the corner was cooked.  If it had been
driver error, then the corner would have been smothered in smoke as he
locked up trying just to save the corner...
But don't get me started on Schue either.  Everyone claims he's the
master of handling pressure.  Yet when Damon was pressuring him in
Adelaide and Jacques two years ago in the last race, he cracked like a
dropped egg.  :)
I'm sure the mainly American Journalists doing the voting also
weighted Jarret's vote tally since he's the guy who was supposed to
flopp, who couldn't fill Davey Allison's shoes.

>Want to show us where it says WORLD's best race driver?

The inclusion of Mika Hakkinen (#3), Eddie Irvine(#11), Michael
Schumacher(#13), and other F1 drivers obviously makes it a world list.

I think it gives a good snapshot of how americans view the world of motor
sport.

As someone else pointed out, no rally drivers.
