Darlington setup... Help!!

by Harald Boe » Sun, 06 Aug 1995 04:00:00

The past 2 weeks I've been strugglin to get a decent race setup for Darlington.
(I never liked the track from the beginning so I never raced on that track but
now I started with a Champ. season I have to.) I started with the ace setup,
so to fix the push exiting the corner I changed lowered LF tire pres. etc,
etc. but somehow I make things worse and I end up with an almost uncontrolable
car.
The average speed I get is around 168 mph during 10 gallons, but to race at
100% opponnent strength this is to slow.

I would like some suggestions in wat direction I have to look, because it's
driving me mad!

thanks in advance,

Harald

Haraold, join the club. I think we all have problems with Darlington. I've
tried too many combos, and most all getting the same results. There is a
nagging push in 2. I can setup to get low, but I loose ground. I can
really ram'em in 1, but top lap speed rarely tops 173 mph. I can't race'em
faster than 98% myself, at least for a full tank.  I can e-mail my setups
later for you to try for yourself.

I turned a 173.657 during a race with this set up.  It's pretty loose
for the first 2-5 laps or so until the tires warm up, but it won't
develop much of a push as the tires wear and fuel load drops off.
I've noticed that set ups depend heavily on driving style.  I tend to
drive kind of easy and controlled -- I don't throw the car around --
so a looser set up like this works for me.  Also, speed at Darlington
depends heavily on hitting the right line, especially through turns 3
and 4.

Fuel:       18 gallons  <-- tires won't last much past this
Wheel Lock: 12 degrees  <-- adjust to your controller
Stagger:    +1.110 inches

Air Dam:      3.5 inches
Rear Spoiler: 70 degrees

1st Gear:  9.00
2nd Gear:  6.10
3rd Gear:  4.70
4th Gear:  3.60

Left Bias:    1900 pounds or 54.29%
Rear Bias:    1790 pounds or 51.14%
Cross Weight:  -25 pounds or 49.29%

TIRE    PSI     CAMBER  SHOCK
 RF      51     -2.30    68%
 RR      51     -----    64%
 LR      50     -----    74%
 LF      48     -0.10    99%

Jimmy,

Try the Papyrus BBS.  That is where I found mine... the number is in
back of the Nascar manual.
