How does the Thrustmaster T2 work ?

1)  Do both the pedals and wheel connect to one game port ?

2) Is there a special  I/F card that comes with the unit ?

3) How do the shift up / down buttons work ?

4) Whats the Pin conections for the 15pin game port.

Any info appreciated.

Richard,
By default, this is how the Formula T2 is set up:

Steering - X1 Axis
Gas/Brake - X2 Axis
Shift Up - Joy 1, Fire 1
Shift Dn - Joy 1, Fire 2
BTN A - Joy 2, Fire 1
BTN B - Joy 2, Fire 2

If you use the Axis Adapter(Converter) that is included with the Formula T2,
the Gas/Brake will be converted to the Y1 Axis.  This is useful for games
which only support 1 joystick.  Either way, the Formula T2 plugs into 1
physical game port.

1)  Do both the pedals and wheel connect to one game port ?

Normally, the steering is Joystick A x-axis, and the gas/brake is
Joystick B x-axis. With the adaptor (supplied) the gas/brake becomes
Joystick A y-axis. The brake/gas is a differential system. If you press
them both down at the same time, the joystick remains centered. This
basically means you can't brake and apply gas at the same time.

2) Is there a special  I/F card that comes with the unit ?

No. Just the adaptor that moves the brake/gas connection.

3) How do the shift up / down buttons work ?

  As joystick A buttons 1 and 2.

4) Whats the Pin conections for the 15pin game port.

The same as a standard game port.
Pin 1 - +5V
Pin 2 - SW1 (other end to GND)
Pin 3 - Joystick A x-axis wiper (one end of the resistor to +5V)
Pin 4 - GND
Pin 5 - GND
Pin 6 - Joystick A y-axis wiper (one end of the resistor to +5V)
Pin 7 - SW2 (other end to GND)
Pin 8 - +5V
Pin 9 - +5V
Pin 10-SW 4 (other end to GND)
Pin 11-Joystick B x-axis wiper (one end of the resistor to +5V)
Pin 12-GND
Pin 13-Joystick B y-axis wiper (one end of the resistor to +5V)
Pin 14-SW3 (other end to GND)
Pin 15-+5V

Hey!   This must mean TM is back online with us!   Nice to have you - and
that was fast response!

Once again, you're putting more distance between you and the "also ran"
companies with your excellent attention to your customers.
I don't know if the others even know if R.A.S. exists, much less monitor it.

Just for that, I'm gonna go out and buy another T2 for my second
computer...!!!

bungee out to me quickly, even though I sent my e-mail during your
recent move.  I have been extremely pleased with Thrustmaster's
service.

Since the bungee on my T2 needed to be replaced, and what seems like
with little warning, I do have a question for you.  After I put the new
one in my T2 I thought why not make an extra, for speed of replacement
next time it happens and rather than bug you folks for a replacement.
It looks like regular bungee cord you can buy, is it?  If it is, what
is the exact length you need?  What do you charge for a replacement?
It may be that getting them from you is cheaper.

Appreciate the service and the info.

Jerry

I don't know what you charge for

Jerry,
Don't worry about it...just send me a message at

Service send a couple of extra replacement bungees to ya.  Don't worry about

OK...Gee, Matt.... Here's a question...   How many T2's do I need before I can get
replacement parts just lying around the house *before* I need them?   That way I'll
have no dreaded "down time" on game night.   People have a tendency to just go home
when their controller breaks.  :-)   Plus, nothing will break until you've invited at
least 3 of your friends to come over and play...

Mike,
Well, just send a message down to our Service Dept., and ask them for
a couple of replacement pots, a couple of accelerator springs, and a couple of
brake springs, and whatever tha heck else ya think ya need.  If they give ya a
hassle, just drop me an email with your Name, Address, and Phone #, and I'll
be sure and get ya what you need.

Mark do you know the trick of placing spacers to prevent your pedal
spring to do full extension when pressing on it completlely ??
It prevent those awfull breakage! All you have to do is recalibrate
your T2 in any simulation. One other trick I have placed spacers on both
side (on the board that support the pedals assy) Recalibrated and then
put another spacers on the brake pedal side to prevent brake locks-->
With the GRAPH ANALYSER i had "shimed" that spacer until i got 90%
braking power --> My lap time are way down now and with adjustment of
the brake rear/front ratio i have full stopping power without locking
up! The best way to shim (with a file) is using a small program called
TMS (from thrustmaster) which give you the right amount of leverage.

Good luck, Eric

Thanks, Matt.   I'll do that.   I just got home after picking up my second T2,
had a 'nice' conversation with my wife about spending so much money on 'toys'...
*gulp*
Time to buy some popcorn & invite the neighborhood over for some racin'
