I think it's time for rec.autos.simulators to be split up into groups
for each sim.  One for GP2, one for Papyrus NCR, one for hawaii, one for
Papyrus ICR.  Anyone with the power to do so, should consider it.

This group is busy right now with GP2 talk cuz it's just out...when Hawaii
started on the open beta, there were 100-plus messages a day just on it.

In 2 months it'll be all about Starting Grid.  In another 3-4 months it'll
all be talk about Nascar2, then in another 2 months it'll be all about
"Where's the patch for Nascar2?".  Six more months, and it'll be something
else...I hope.

Might as well keep it all together, unless you want to split off "sims with
fenders" from "open-wheel sims", or "cars that only turn left" from "cars
that turn right half the time"....that's probably the best split.

My $0.02:  rec.autos simulators.gp (covering World Circuit and GP2)
           rec.autos.simulators.nascar (nascar/nascar mp/nascar2)
           rec.autos.simulators.indycar (icr/icr mp/icr2)

I think your mp threads and offline threads can corelate and should be
kept together...or even toss it all together in a;

I suggest you try using a THREADED newsreader and only read the subjects
that interest you, you don't have to read every single article posted here
daily. What happens each time a new game comes out? do we request that our
news admins add yet another newsgroup each time?

You will see lots of posts about whichever thing is new such as the ICR2
patch... hawaii .. gp2. If you dont want to read about a certain subject
add it to your kill file. If your newsreader doesn't support threads or
kill files then find one that does.

I think all the new Newsreader programs that are available now have lots
of neato features to make them user-friendly but are lacking in basic
USENET functions such as 80 char wordwrap and threads and killfiles, but I
know some of them out there do provide these feature, it's a pity lots of
people use Netscape to read news when it does such a poor job of
supporting basic USENET features.

Anyhow, hope that helps you somewhat.
Cheers.

way too big!!

: The talk about Hawaii will no dought stay, and get more volume as more
: hear about it.  I think at least an r.a.s.Hawaii split off would be in
: order.  It would also open up a reasonably easy access for those hard
: core Hawaii types that want to commune.

Now this one I kinda agree on.  However I would suggest something along
the lines of rec.autos.simulators.online.  Just in case someone else
down the line decides to get on the Papyrus bandwagon.

However, there would still be posting in r.a.s. related to Hawaii & NRL,
that's just the nature of the beast.

I am not supporting a split, however...  If we were to split I would
like to point out a minor correction to the above.  Not
rec.autos.simulators.gp, but rec.autos.simulators.f1.  Since there are
other f1 sims coming out this fall they will need a home also.  But then
they will feel that they need a separate group to get away from all of
the chatter about GP2, which doesn't relate to their particular sim.

to reality...

No, Hawaii talk will die, when NASCAR 2 comes out and the NRL gets going.
Why?  Because Hawaii is the prototype for the NRL.  As such, a RAS.hawaii
would become a waste.  Besides, it's NASCAR/2 related anyhow.

Well maybe I should have made myself more clear.  This Nascar on-line
thing is gonna stay. Call it ras.Hawaii, ras.NRL, ras.online, whatever.
As soon as it gets to its normal steady state of being it's not hard to
see how it could hold up a newsgroup on its own. That's all I was trying
to imply.

When you guys talk about new newsgroups, how much is it to get a
brand new one created?  Moderated?  Is there specific servers that
offer some newsgroups free?

Mailbots with my provider are frickin' expensive.  They want 9 bucks
a month for a frickin' mailing list (which is the same as a mailbot,
if I'm not mistaken, right?)

Thanks for the help.

Dave.
