HW problem w/SODA; please help!

by Josema » Sat, 25 Oct 1997 04:00:00

I have played N2 for a year with a T2 wheel and an ACM card under DOS.  Now I
have SODA for W95, and I can't get the joystick port to work at all.  The
 problem is:

In the control panel I have no "Joystick" icon.  I installed the ACM card
through "Add new hardware", and I have a "gameport" icon, and I also installed
the thrustmaster propanel.  I can install T2 with either the "gameport" or the
"propanel", but it shows as "disconnected" or "unplugged", even though it is
plugged in and works fine in a DOS configuration.

One other complication that might be the problem: I have a Dell PC which uses a
Vibra soundcard that has no hardware jumper to disable the gameport (and is
not pnp).  To fix this, I downloaded a utility from Dell called
"gameport.exe", a TSR which disables the gameport.  It may be that this
doesn't work under W95 somehow, although there appear to be no contention
 issues.

I have spent hours trying to fix this and I would love some help!  SODA with a
 keyboard is a bit tricky.

Thanks!

I understand that the demo didn't really use the win95 joystick
calibration.  Have you tried calibrating your wheel by itself in the
sim?

% In the control panel I have no "Joystick" icon.  I installed the ACM card

First make sure that you are selecting the T2 as ID 1.  It will not work
as any other ID.

Are you loading the soundcard drivers in your config.sys or autoexec.bat
for your Win95 setup?  If so, try REMming out these lines and see if
Win95 won't install the virtual drivers for your soundcard.  There
should be a "box" to disable the joystick port on the soundcard in the
System Properties -> Device Manager -> Sound Video and game controllers
-> settings for your soundcard.    If you have a Gameport Joystick in
the Device Manger, try unchecking the box "original configuration".
Then re-boot windows and see if you can't communicate with the ACM.

% Thanks!
