Looking for a ICR update. Is ABC Sports any good?

Hi,
Seeing as Papy is neglecting to update their wonderful ICR sim I'm
looking for an alternative Cart sim. I read a review of ABC Sports
Indy Racing:Indianapolis 500 at the Gamesdomain and the reviewer said
it is pretty good. Is it worth considering? Is there a demo around?
Thx.

Buy this one at your own risk!!  Figure for a second->they packaged 2
copies of the game in a box.  One for you & one for a friend, they
said.  When's the last time a company gave you something for nothing?
Right.  It made me suspicious when I got it.  Sure enough, you get what
you pay for. ;-)

The AI aren't great, the visual damage modeling downright sucked.  As I
recall (it's been a while), it seems that the steering response wasn't
that great either.  Good Luck.

As far as I know, the only regular user here that had it was
John Bodin.  (of course we all know he's a plant by that Satan's Spawn
who stole the Indy 500){just kidding John}  He's also the only one who
took time to use it...He liked it...but I can't think of anyone else who
did.

The driving model was OK.  Not GPL.  Hell, not even ICR2, but it was better
than NASCAR 98 on the Sega Saturn IMHO!  Anyway, the steering sucked, visual
damage was practically nonexistent, the tracks were ugly, sensation of speed
was likewise nonexistent.  The only thing good about it was that the car really
responded to car setup changes.  I ran 227 at Indy once.  Not bad for a 1997
spec IRL car!  ;)

Actually that was one that was about one good patch away from being a decent
little game.

Too bad that patch never came about.
The thing I found most interesting in that one is the sprint car stuff. To
bad the controller interface was so bad you could hardly drive them.
If I remember right the slighest amount of lift off the throttle was like
slamming on the brakes.
The whole controller issue pretty much kept me from going any further into
the game so I can't comment on AI or other things.

It wasnt great but it was descent.  Get past the not so easy to use interface
and the crummy graphics and you could have some fun with it.  The tracks (for
having bad graphics) were modeled quite well.  The driving model was on a par
with that of say N1 (if you took time to set the car up).  The default setups
were terrible.  The only real redeeming quality of this game was the sprint car
stuff.  If it werent for that it wouldnt be on my HD anymore.  And with DTR:
Sprints coming out soon it might finally get the boot.  Bottom line...its ok.
Not really an ICR2 beater but its not as bad as some people say.

Thx for all your comments. I think I will pick this one up only if I
find it for cheap in a bargain bin. Is there any other Indy sim worth
getting besides ICR2 that uses glide or D3D?

LOL!!  Just remembering to myself.  About 2 weeks or so after this thing
was released, me & Randy MacGruder(sp?) had a real knockdown dragout
about this one here on RAS.  So, I guess Mr. Bodin had at least one
person to share his views with. <g>
