GPL: worth getting?

by Alex Ingra » Sun, 13 Jun 1999 04:00:00

Hello, I really like racing sims, and currently play TOCA 2 to death.

Anyway, I've been looking at GPL in the shops, but it's still full
price, and I want to know if it's really worth getting.

How good would it be on my system.

AMD K6-2 350
64 Mb SD-RAM (soon 128)
Voodoo II 12 MB
Win 98
Cheap but good Destiny Steering wheel/pedals

Let me put it in perspective: compared to GPL, TOCA2 SUCKS.  Of course, I think
TOCA 2 sucks period, but you seem to like it...   anyway...  GPL is the most
fun I've ever had on a racing sim.

all matters what kinda driver you are.  Are you very agressive?  this
threw me off alot when I played GPL on my friends pc.  are you willing to
take it a bit careful and take time for the rather large learning curve
to set in?  If you don't mind the drift, taking your time to start with,
and a rather large learning curve get it.  But I'm one who gets pissed at
the smallest things and I can't handle GPL it at all.  but I am having
fun with SBK at its max dificulty (other than AI).  and your system is
forsure a-okay.

To the original message sender... TOCA 2 is a good arcade racer, but
GPL is the _perfect_ simulator, with the steepest learning curve you
can imagine, excellent car physics, superb sound, awesome crashes,
excellent multiplayer action via VROC... I would buy GPL even if it
were selling at ten times what it is now!

BTW, in Englan, GPL came down to 19.99 a _long_ time ago, I believe.

Unless it's gone up again it's still about 25. If it was 250 I'd still
say run out and get it :-) Get a decent wheel/pedal setup while your out
there. Might be an expensive start, but you won't be buying much other
driving software from now on, so it's a saving in the long run <g>

Its only 20.00 in PC World? (it used to be 35.00 when it was first
released).

Yes, it should run ok on your system.

Go buy it now!!!!
