Hmm..anyone know why the release date has changed from tomorrow (29/10) to
the 19th November?
(apart from the fact that the lousy handling needed addressing from the
demo!!!)

It's been pushed back becaaue they wanted to make it the best sim ever made.

The delay has nothing to do whatsoever with "lousy handling". One mistake
they made was assuming that most people here at r.a.s. could read and
comprehend.

As if r.a.s. really matters to anyone but ourselves.

David,

I downloaded the Rally 2 Demo and was not in the least impressed.  It
appears from a cursory look to be to arcadish for my tastes.  Now if you
like that type of racing game, fine.  I don't.  I won't buy it, more than
likely.  It reminds me too much of an EA game, and the graphics are not
good, 3dfx-- though that doesn't concern me as much as having a good
simulator.

Good ;-)

I think the situation is pretty normal for r.a.s.  We are just, hmm how can
I say, very safe on upcoming sims, yet at the same time we won't mind
expressing rage if it's not correct.  Ex: We await with great interest those
new sims, but at the same time we don't panic.  But when we do, we do.

It's normal we fear a little RC and how it will be.  We won't trust whatever
people say until we get our hands on it.  After, we will judge it.  Too many
softwares have failed the hype.  C:PR, MGPRS2 (that's true remember all),
and just this week, Spirit of Speed.  Demos are so overlooked by software
developers.  And Im talking about everybody.  I found incredible that
Papyrus hasn't released a demo yet for Nascar Racing 3.  Personally I just
want a realistic Rally sim.  Eye-candy isn't that important as a good game
engine that simulates very well Rally racing.  Throttle-feathering,
realistic corner braking and power-sliding.  Hit a tree and your weekend is
over.  Turbo lag.  Good stages, where sometimes slow = fast.  And nice
online racing, where everybody starts the stage at the same time, and at the
end you see everybody's results, and pass on the next stage (while waiting
for other to finish you could look at them).  Just hard-core Rally racing.
But put arcade stuff for the masses ;)

That was my impression, too, but I've been advised to wait for the
final demo. I've decided to postpone my purchasing decision until then.

I think Fish needs to know that we will still like him even if Rally
Championship doesn't deliver.  DF - Don't become defensive - this isn't your
sim, even though you've been it's main defender here on RAS from the
begining.  Don't let it come between you and us.

There will be many great sims in the future (imagine what we will be seeing
in 5 years).  Let's just take them as they come :)

>It's been pushed back becaaue they wanted to make it the best sim ever

made.

How much better is the latest version you claim to have played than the demo
us mere mortals have tried?
Please give some non-vague details of what's been improved.
Things that NEED sorted are:
Physics - as I went on about in an earlier post, you don't just come to a
dead stop when you clip something in real life - there's inertia, energy
disipation, you don't just do 80-0 instantaneously.  It's probably this flaw
that explains why there's no feeling of weight when the car gets sideways
and corrections result in the rear of the car coming immediately back in
line.  I want to be wrong (I don't know how many times I've said that) but I
can't believe that they've managed to overhaul (and that's what was needed)
something so integral to the sim.
Steering - unplayable with dead zone, unplayable without.  Dealing with
wheel input is one of the few things they got right in RAC, and now that's
screwed (I know, I know - it's the demo).  Here is a demo that plays better
with the keyboard - good sign of an arcade racer.  Tell me it's fixed.

I have no idea what you're implying here.  Please expand.  The fact that
this is a text based forum and therefore completely useless to anyone who
can't read...
What was the delay?

And who else does it need to matter to?  Your mum?  My Auntie?  The
President of the United States?

You are getting -way- defensive over a product that hasn't been released and
so far has only disappointed.  You don't like us slagging the demo claiming
it's just a beta (it's all we've got to work with here) yet you don't give
any sort feedback as to what specifically has been improved.  Claims of
'best sim ever' in this company really ought to be founded, and not just by
a bunch of rally drivers who's previous experience of sim racing was
probably Pole Position or 5 minutes with CMR and a dual shock.  Have they
tried SODA?  The best off-road sim bar none.  If they did, maybe they'd
re-evaluate.  After all, Mark Blundell sung the praises of CART PR...

Anyone know when Rally Championship will be out in UK? Heard it was to be
end of October, then it might be 19th November.

Last I heard it was the 12th.  A week tomorrow...

More importantly, now that the game is complete, when do we see a 'proper'
demo?
