Well, if they're not the best, then I'm trying to figure out who is (OK F1
guys I suppose).
Anyway, I agree with you.
Most road races I'll say "GEEZ! That was close!" once or twice per race, but
with WRC drivers I say that once or twice per driver per stage.
WRC has got a lot going for it:
For example the all tarmac rallies (Corsica, Spain & San Remo) are very
reminiscent of the Targa Florio, The Carrera Panamericana and The Milla
Miglia (which I miss).
You also get to see "real" cars (OK, race versions of real cars) that we
could buy and drive around. And more on that point, if you had the money and
really wanted to, you could get a Subaru WRX with the full Prodrive kit and
drive it around town. Try doing that with Schumacher's F1 2002.
They have a passenger seat. Although that does dilute it from the pure
esthetics and purposefulness of an F1 car, you could do the WRC version of
"taking someone along for a ride" as some people wish they could do with F1
cars. Imagine what it would be like to have a run at the Sisteron stage of
the Monte in Makinen's WRX with him driving at maximum attack (to use the
rally terminology).
