GPL - Eagle in auto down-shifting mood?

I've recently noticed whilst lapping at Monza that my Eagle (haven't
yet tried this with the other cars) will automatically downshift twice
to third when I brake for Curva Grande, just at the point of the
sliproad on the right.  At first I thought my left hand was brushing
the left paddle when I turned in, but this definitely is not the case.

I've tried recalibrating my Microsoft FF wheel, which hasn't made a
difference.  Also changed the linear/non-linear slider which is (by
default?) set to the middle, which again has no effect.

I suspect a re-install is required; GPL is the probable cause of some
Fatal Exception messages on shut-down, so I assume I've got problems
anyway.

Just thought I'd ask if anyone else had ever experienced anything
similar.

FYI, my system:

Celeron 433
Voodoo 3 2000
Win 98 SE
MS FF wheel
GPL 1.2 (no car or track additions; just replacement sounds)

Yup - experienced it in GPL and N4 - but NO other titles.  It's a papy
controller code problem specific to the joy-port MSFF - expecially with SB
Live's

Little one can do really

Really?! But it's only just started to happen; I've been using the MSFF with
GPL for at least 2 years??

Maybe some isolation of the internal cabling of the button or paddle you're
using for downshifting has gone and when you turn the wheel, the blank cable
gets contact to some other part of the wheel, causing a "shift down" signal.
Just a wild guess here but I for one would open the hood and have a look...

or try mapping the shift-down command to another button before you tear the
wheel apart :o)

On a couple wheels I've had a cable go bad where there was a tight bend or
kink in the cable that over time broke the copper within. I took out a 2" or
so section and it was fine again. As far as force feed back stuff I have no
clue.

I've had a paddle on my wheel that would only work when turning left.
Turned out that the wire was cut, and would only reconnect when the
wheel turned left. Solder and tape were an easy fix :)
