upgrading for driving games

by Barne » Mon, 15 Oct 2001 22:51:30

Current system;
K7 600
mobo: AMD 75X W977  Gigabite GA 71X.F1
ram:    512 SD
op sys:Win 98 SE
video: Viper 770 Ultra
audio: Creative SB Live! Value

1st question
With this current system, what is the largest processor can I put in without
updating the mobo?

2nd question
What are the latest drivers for the gear I currently have (or are they too
old to update)?
Or where can I find them? (we'll call that 2a :))

Playing GPL N4 F1-2001 etc

Thanks in advance

Barney

Why don't you try researching the mobo on the internet?
Gigabyte web site: http://www.giga-byte.com/
The owners manual is available for download
http://www.giga-byte.com/support/support.htm
The mobo is a slot A so CPU availability is a concern here, but with a
"slocket" converter not really.
How fast? On page 11 the owner manual says 1Gig plus. The mobo is made
for Athlon/Duron 200Mhz FSB processors supports 3 DIMM up to 1.5GB
SDRAM , Provides AGP 4X slot , Supports PC133 SDRAM memory
Supports 4 USB ports ,Supports UDMA ATA 100/66 IDE devices
See http://www.tccomputers.com/ for a price list on CPUs, for example
a AMD ATHLON TBIRD 1.2GHZ, 256K L2 CACHE, 200MHZ FSB, OEM goes for
$109 and AMD DURON 750 MHZ W/PGA 1.8V 64KB L2 CACHE, OEM
goes for $46...spend what you want. Don't forget to get the "slocket "
converter though.
Try researching for yourself, you might be surprised how easy it is to
answer your own questions. I found this stuff in about 10 minutes.
